Trying to make sense of the murder, Ren encounters Aiko Murakane, a sharp-tongued, overly perceptive girl claiming to be a teenage detective. She knows things she shouldn’t—about Ren’s past, his abilities, and the supernatural threats growing in the city. She becomes his reluctant partner.
Ren soon discovers he's one of the Eighteen—humans reincarnated across time, chosen by ancient god-like beings who once visited Earth and blessed it with powers to protect against future darkness. The price? Each threat they defeat brings them closer to remembering everything—including the lives they’ve lived before.
As strange events pile up, reality begins to warp. Time skips. People vanish. And Ren starts unlocking his supernatural ability: cognitive resonance, the power to read truth from memory and manipulate it.
then he finds an ancient underground archive and meets Professor Shigure, who reveals the full myth: the Eighteen will keep being reborn until they stop all 18 threats. But one of them—one of the Chosen—may already be corrupted.
As Ren looks across the city skyline, storm rolling in, he feels it: something bigger is coming. Something watching.
