I wake up to the sun shining bright in my eyes, almost blinding me in bed. I hate it, especially when the sun decides to wake me up with its brightness instead.
I retrieve my phone from my nightstand, glance at its screen, and smile at the lock screen. I unlock the phone so I can read the message fully.
From: MOM
Hey, sweetie, I hope you had a wonderful day today. Your father and I miss you so much.
Mom, I appreciate it, and I miss you, too.
Just before locking my phone, I smile. Scrambling out of bed, I make my way to the restroom to wash my teeth and rinse off in the shower. Upon returning to my room, I find Jason perched on my bed, so I wrap a towel around myself.
"Jason, I do not have a word to tell you. Now, would you mind just leaving my room?" I gesture towards the door while simultaneously gripping my waist.
Sighing silently, he leaves the room.
I walked to the kitchen after putting on some shorts and a white t-shirt, and when I arrived, I discovered Jason working in the kitchen.
As he chews on his cereal, he whispers, "Marie!"
In between clearing my throat and starting the coffee maker, I walk half-smiling to the fridge to get an apple.
"I apologize for what happened last night and again this morning," he says, looking down at his bowl.
"Unforgiven," I let out a sigh, rolling my eyes in exasperation.
He lets out a deep sigh, brushing his tousled hair away from his forehead. "Look!" I did not mean to walk into your room like that, okay?" he says.
He glances at the ringing phone but does not pick it up.
He continued to ignore the girl's name that appeared on the screen.
Is it the fact that he keeps annoying me, or is it the fact that he is being called by a girl?
"Are you seriously going to ignore that? I let out a growl.
"No, I'm not," he responds.
"You are so annoying," I say, rolling my eyes at him with exasperation.

In all candor, Jason still has not decided which movie we could watch, and the process is taking far too long.
"Jason, can't we just watch Scream?" I frown at him.
He grunts as he puts on the Scream movie, "Okay, okay, geez, Marie."
Before we start the movie, I get some popcorn. He slouches down and puts his legs on the coffee table, making himself even more comfortable.
"Eww!" "Jason, remove your filthy feet from the table," I assertively nudge his legs away, causing them to tumble off the surface.
"Oh, come on, Marie, my feet are not even dirty," he remarks, casually placing his feet back on the coffee table.
With a heavy sigh of resignation, I watch as he smiles before turning his attention back to the television.
Jason gave me the "I will kill you" glare because I kept screaming during the scary movie, but why is it called Scream if you cannot scream for 1 hr 42 min?
Now, sleep eludes me as Jason's light continues to glow, casting a soft illumination that seeps through the gap beneath my door.
Marie!" He whispers my name gently.
I stay silent, eager to catch the words that would follow.
"Are you awake?"
"Yes, what is wrong?"
"Can I come to sleep with you?" he asks, his voice tinged with a sense of urgency.
"What makes you desire to share a bed with me, Jason?"
"I cannot sleep; it is just sleeping and nothing else," he mumbles, a light chuckle escaping his lips.
"My door is not locked," I whisper softly to myself.
Just as he is about to respond, the door swung open, and he stumbled in the darkness, appearing increasingly foolish as he cautiously made his way toward the bed, arms extended in front of him.
Anytime I see him doing something funny, it makes me smile.
