In the past, the people on the ground shared the same accent and speech.
They were so proud, wise, and united that they wanted to build a great city, a tower that could reach heaven.
—For they desired to dwell in high places, they wanted to proclaim their names. They aimed to erect a tall lighthouse, so that wanderers from afar could see their homeland.
They wanted to be idols unto themselves, to sit on an equal footing with the gods... ultimately, they wanted to surpass God.
Thereafter, the "God" confused their accents and made their speech mutually unintelligible. Thus, the people scattered across the earth, and conflicts arose amongst them. Hence, the tower that was once built and then abandoned, came to be known as "Babel."
That means "disorder," and it also implies "the Gate of God."
This is what Russell knew... about the legend of the Babel Tower in another world.
And this was also what the ancient humans of this world had experienced.
