Her lips parted, but no words came out.
She was in shock.
She stared at him, waiting for him to retract his statement, to tell her he was joking. But his gaze was unwavering all hints of a joke gone.
"You can't be serious," she finally managed, her voice quieter than she intended. She wondered if he could hear the fear in her tone.
She could feel the beginning of a panic attack.
"Oh, I'm very serious." His grip on her waist tightened slightly, as if to prevent her from slipping away.
"But why? We agreed to keep this—" She gestured between them. "—a secret."
"I know," he admitted. "And we will. To the world, you'll still be my assistant till you are ready to let them know that you are more than that. But to my family… I want them to meet you."
Jasmine shook her head. "No, Tristan. This is a bad idea. Your family doesn't even know about us. How do you expect them to react? What if they don't approve?"
