Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

It was a hectic day for the house prefects since today was the day the freshers were arriving.

The house prefects had to inspect all the trunks and chop boxes of the freshers to make sure all the right and necessary things were in before they allocated rooms for them.

Today was the first day for the freshers at Harmony High School.  The campus was abuzz with anticipation as the new students stepped into their bright and promising future. The school grounds were filled with vibrant colours, friendly faces, and a sense of adventure in the air.

As the freshers arrived at Harmony High School, they were greeted by a bustling atmosphere. Excitement filled the air as they made their way to their designated boarding houses. The house masters, with their warm smiles and welcoming gestures, guided the students through the registration process. Alongside them, the house prefects assisted and inspected their things. It was a moment of connection and camaraderie as the freshers began to settle into their new homes, forging bonds that would last throughout their time at Harmony High School.

As the freshers made their way to their boarding houses, they came across Dan, the house prefect. With a serious expression and beads of sweat on his face, he cordially greeted the parents of the new students. His stern demeanour and lack of smile already had the freshers feeling a bit apprehensive. However, on the other hand, the assistant prefect Arthur was a complete contrast. Sporting a constant smile, though, upon closer inspection, one might suspect mischievousness in his eyes. This stark difference in their personalities had quite an effect on the freshers, leaving them with mixed feelings about their new leaders.

In Rena House, Dan and Arthur served as the two main house prefects, overseeing the well-being of the students. Harmony High School had a total of 11 houses, all of which were large two-story buildings capable of accommodating approximately 300 students. Each room in Rena House held 16 students, with bunk beds arranged in two rows, accommodating two students on each bunk. The beds were arranged with four students on one side and another four on the opposite side, making a total of 16 people in the room. There were two windows in each room.

The lower bunks were reserved for the final year students, also known as the Form 3 students. Rena House was exclusively for boys, while the school had six houses for girls and five houses for boys. The Form 2 students occupied the upper level of the two-story building, while the Form 3 and Form 1 students that's the freshers, stayed on the lower level.

The head boy of Harmony Senior High was Kelvin. He had his room on the upper level of Rena House, along with the other prefects. There were four prefects rooms in Rena House, two on the upper level and two on the lower level. The other prefects from different houses were dispersed in their respective houses. In Rena House, the house prefects had a whole room to themselves on the lower level, while the other prefects shared rooms on the upper level. Each room for the prefects was divided into two sections with a large curtain, providing privacy for each prefect, even though they were in the same room.

Kelvin, the head boy, was in his room, observing the eager freshmen from the windows. He couldn't help but find it amusing how strict and structured Dan was being with the freshmen. Kelvin noticed his roommate, who was the protocol prefect, sitting with Papa Nimo, the housemaster, helping with the registration of the freshmen. Kelvin sighed and turned his attention back to his tasks. He had to prepare for the freshmen's orientation and wasn't quite ready to assist with the registration and inspection just yet.

Papa Nimo, the housemaster, was having a pretty good day. Parents were slipping him some cash as a little gift while he registered their kids. Kwesi, the protocol prefect, was busy assigning rooms to the freshmen. Once he finished, he would loudly call out the room numbers, and the Form 3 students whose room was called would come out and help the freshmen settle in.

The top bunk bed in that room would become the "school father" for the freshman. In a Ghanaian boarding school, a school father is like a mentor who shows the freshman the ropes and teaches them the dos and don'ts of the school.

The perfect rooms also had bunk beds, and since they hadn't chosen their school sons yet, they were just assigning them to other rooms with the regular Form 3 students on the lower level. Kwesi wanted to annoy Kelvin, who was still in his room, by assigning him a school son. He knew Kelvin didn't want one, but Kwesi found it amusing to bug him like that. He chuckled at the thought. Suddenly, a boyish voice interrupted him, " Are you okay Senior, is something funny why are you laughing at yourself" Kelvin looked up from the book with all the room information and looked up to where the voice came from.
