Chapter 896 - You Should Take a Break

This work is unlikely to see significant breakthroughs in the short term, but the other tasks cannot be neglected either and must proceed simultaneously.

This was going to be an unprecedented scale of game, and even Takayuki himself would have many headaches facing the sheer scale of this project.

However, for the dream in his heart, to make up for the regrets inside him, no matter what obstacles arose, he was determined to push through. He then went to the Third Development Group to check on their progress.

The Third Development Group mainly handled programming and coding issues.

It had also become the long-term base for the Stanford Legion.

In the past, the Stanford Legion had been a mobile support team, but almost all of them had now stayed long-term in the Third Development Group.

This was because the technical difficulties and the complexity of the Cyberpunk 2077 code presented a whole new level of challenge.

Even the Stanford Legion had now encountered a bottleneck.

The larger the game's scale, the more problems it faced.

Even with the help of the Unreal Engine, the development and technology for Cyberpunk was a completely new direction.

If Takayuki hadn't been pushing for industrialized game development a few years ago, the people involved might not even have known where to begin.

The benefit of industrialization was that, at the very least, people had tangible work to do.

"President, you're here," Kitatani Hitomi said when Takayuki arrived on the Third Development Group's floor. He was in the central hall of the floor, pondering the next steps for game development.

As soon as he saw Takayuki coming from the elevator, he hurried over to greet him.

Takayuki gave Kitatani a once-over and then said, "I think you should take a good rest. While this work is indeed troublesome, I don't want my key team members to burn out."

At that moment, Kitatani looked completely disheveled, his beard clearly having not been shaved for quite a while, and he appeared much more fatigued.

The dark circles under his eyes were particularly prominent.

Kitatani was now in his thirties, and his energy wasn't as it had been in his younger years.

Looking at Kitatani in this state, it was clear he had been burning the midnight oil to overcome the technical issues for 2077.

"President, I'm fine. I just want to break through my own bottleneck. If I don't break through, I just can't sit still."

Kitatani wasn't particularly noticeable within the company.

Everyone knew he was the head of the Third Game Development Department.

But this department handled a variety of game types, with no signature title of its own. This lack of a recognizable flagship game made it hard to define.

However, this kind of talent was more unique because he could handle almost any task, which was something extraordinary.

But Kitatani also had a relatively bad habit.

Or perhaps, it was a habit he shared with Takayuki.

Takayuki himself was willing to sacrifice everything to create a better game.

He had no hesitation staying awake for days and nights if necessary.

But Takayuki was different. His energy seemed to be incredibly abundant, which seemed like an invisible benefit from his journey to this world.

Even though he didn't have a system, he possessed an extraordinary level of energy and countless experiences from developing games, which were key reasons behind his ability to continuously create top-tier games.

Kitatani, who greatly admired Takayuki, also hoped he could achieve similar feats.

Staying up late became a regular occurrence for him.

Takayuki paused for a moment before asking, "So, what technical challenges have you overcome?"

"Nothing," Kitatani replied, somewhat disheartened.

The overall scale of 2077 was too large. He had led a team of a thousand people in batches to write the code, but it was merely repetitive work with no technical depth.

The truly technical aspects were the various demands Takayuki had put forth for the game.

For instance, Takayuki required that characters be able to seamlessly switch between first-person and third-person perspectives within the game.

Or Takayuki had also requested that there be more interactable objects in the city.

From small things like pebbles on the street to larger items like battle mechs.

And then there were all the countless details.

For example, some buildings in the game could be destroyed—this wasn't even considered remarkable anymore.

Takayuki had even requested that a simple rope in the game should have its own realistic motion trajectory, just like a real rope.

It felt absurd. Why should a rope require that much attention?

Moreover, Takayuki wanted the character interaction with items to be more realistic.

It shouldn't just be that when the character walks up to an item, it automatically goes into the inventory after a quick interaction.

Instead, the character's hand should actually touch the item in the designated spot, then place the item into their backpack, with no awkwardness whatsoever.

The amount of detail Takayuki had requested for this game was almost overwhelming.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the level of detail was already impressive, right?

Fires could ignite grass, creating strong winds, and water could extinguish fire. If the fire was large enough, water could vaporize, failing to fully put it out.

Or there was a mature physics system that allowed characters in Breath of the Wild to perform actions more fluidly.

Developing Breath of the Wild was already quite a challenge.

And the details for 2077 were several times more than that of Breath of the Wild.

How many times more? Kitatani couldn't even calculate it.

But despite all the complaints in his heart, he still harbored one hope.

That was, he truly hoped he could personally create this game.

The sense of achievement from that would be incomparable.

Takayuki said, "Since you haven't accomplished anything yet, you should temporarily put down your work. It seems like the pressure I've put on you is too much. You don't need to be so anxious. Every time I come by, I just want to see the progress and check how far we've come. At least, it's not time to rush the game into its final form yet."

Takayuki was deeply aware of how high the difficulty of developing this game was.

This was probably the most difficult game Gamestar Electronic Entertainment had ever developed and would develop in the future.

There were so many technical details that still needed to be tackled, and that wasn't something that could be done in a day.

"But President..."

Takayuki waved his hand and said, "Go rest. That's an order from the President. I don't want you to drop dead from exhaustion at work, because if that happens, I'll lose an important person. Your personal well-being is worth more than the game itself. The game will be completed eventually, but your health is harder to recover once it's gone."
