Gingerly, Penny walked into the conjoined room that housed both the kitchen and lounge area. After reawakening from the night before, the wayward thief had spent the entire morning dreading the conversation with her 'parents'. After all, she had just snuck out into the middle of night and attempted to flee from their home.
And for what? Something about a trial? She couldn't even remember why she did something so reckless. It was all a bit more than embarrassing, she imagined poor 'dad' had to carry her back in that freezing cold wind, she couldn't help but feel terrible.
She wrung her hands together as she entered, her palms clammy despite the lingering warmth of the fire crackling in the hearth. The smell of fresh bread and roasting meat filled the room, comforting and almost strong enough to drown out the knot twisting in her stomach.
