"Room 308 is one of the best rooms in the Diamond Pavilion Hotel," Samantha continued, her voice dripping with a forced sweetness as she looked at Dain with wide, expectant eyes. "It's a honeymoon suite, and it's been booked exactly according to your preferences, as requested by your trip planner."
Samantha glanced at Dain, her eyes almost pleading, hoping he would simply agree to what had been arranged. Sophie could see the way Samantha's body language shifted—leaning in slightly, her posture straight and inviting, as if she were hoping Dain would choose the room because of her, and not because it was the best option. It was absurd, and Sophie couldn't help the small laugh that escaped her lips. It was soft at first, but it quickly turned cold, a laugh that was full of disbelief.
