"Cassandra, do not worry," said the lawyer across from her. "You won't be in here for long."
"For long?" Cassandra repeated. "What does that mean? Am I supposed to stay here tonight?"
"They will have 36 hours to detain you here, but after that, you'll be walking out," the lawyer reassured. "Even if they pursue this case, you'll be free on bail throughout the trial."
Cassandra couldn't help but let out a laugh. "Free on bail?"
SLAM!
Cassandra slammed her hand on the desk. "I am innocent. Don't tell me you don't believe that?"
"I do, but we have no choice, Miss Smith," the lawyer sighed heavily, extending his understanding because he knew this wouldn't be easy for Cassandra. Counting the hours she had been here, his client's frustrations were very understandable.
"Please, just hang on," he encouraged. "Do not talk to them without my presence. Once you're ready, they can ask all the questions they want. Answer the ones you want. If I think one is tricky, I'll intervene."
