In the dead of night, Yan Xiaye was awakened by a faint vibrating sound.
Sitting up and rubbing her eyes, she carefully reached for her cellphone and silently got out of bed to walk to the living room.
Her circle of acquaintances was not broad, and generally speaking, no one would call her in the middle of the night unless there was some special reason.
Stopping in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Yan Xiaye glanced at the unfamiliar caller ID and, without much hesitation, picked up the call, her voice still tinged with the grogginess of being woken up: "Hello, who's this?"
The next second, a sinister male voice came through the handset, each word as if clenched through gritted teeth and squeezed from between them, full of menace: "Yan Xiaye, I know what you've done!"
"Who are you?"
