TWO MONTHS LATER
He knelt in the royal rose garden, feeding and watering the flowers. There was something meditative about tending the brilliant red, yellow, candy-striped, orange, pink, and white blooms. These were long-stemmed roses, and difficult to cultivate.
Wearing a hat to shade him from the sun and a soft red royal robe, Luc felt the servants' eyes on him. They hovered, ready to cater to his every need and desire. He was, after all, the new King's Consort, and the king doted on him like ... like a pet.
He found it ironic and darkly funny now, thinking about his brother's little performance with the human that sat beside Dimitri in the halls of Merak, wearing a crown. Dimitri had spoken of and to the human as one would a poodle. But it was all a big show, a fake, a con.
