Chapter 49 - Apex Predator

Rizevim felt a gaze boring through him. For the first time in centuries, he felt a genuine threat from the abomination standing in front of him. While he made it a point to never be a coward, this brat gave him a run for his money.

He had so many abilities, such as enhanced regeneration, spiritual spell casting, cloning, and a plethora of other abilities. Let's not get started on the fact that he is utilizing a divine curse.

As much as he hated anything related to that guy, he still wouldn't scoff at anything created by him, especially today. At least he had valuable intel on the cursed human.

Although he did not get any techniques from him today, he felt as if it would be better if he killed him off instead.

With a burst of speed, he had just arrived in front of the hollowfied Hisashi. With a casual flick of his wrist, he sent a slash of black flames at Rizevim's direction.

Hisashi frowned as sweat trickled down his forehead from beneath the mask. The voices had gotten louder and louder the more he stayed in his Vasto Lorde form.

They were telling him to destroy everything. To kill everyone he encountered. To drown in his own bloodthirst.

That was a thin line of his humanity he never wanted to cross. Although he did sacrifice part of his humanity by embracing his hollow nature, he was still human.

If he did let one part of him rule over his soul, then he would definitely become the hollow he was. Although Yuzui was not exactly trying to control him, the only thing keeping his aggressive nature in check was Hisashi himself alongside Licht.

'I haven't used her powers yet, not that I didn't want to.' He knew her abilities could be versatile if used right.

As Rizevim and Hisashi met in a clash of blades, they moved through the air, each of their swings sending shockwaves throughout the entire battlefield.

Their very battle split the sky in half and sent debris of rock flying everywhere. Both of them were at each other's necks, unable to end the other.

The space behind Hisashi seemed to crack open as he jumped back, quickly disappearing from the Devil with Lucifer's blood running in his veins. He felt his instincts screaming at him. A presence was just behind him, and his blood went cold.

The silver-haired devil opted to dodge the attack that would have surely ended his life. As he shot downwards, he felt an immense sense of dread clawing at his being.

He was waiting right in front of him. A concentrated blast of energy formed at the tip of his horns, swirling and compressing into a ball.

Rizevim believed that the boy would throw the attack in the form of a contained blast of energy that would explode later on.

It was never within his imagination that a large torrent of energy would be shot towards him at blinding speeds. He managed to evade the attack, albeit with a heavily damaged arm.

As he tried to correct his posture, he found a red-haired, blue-eyed devil blasting him with destructive crimson energy.

The red haired devil definitely had that troublesome clan trait — the Power of Destruction. With his spear made of DBEL, he reinforced it before throwing it towards the attack Sirzechs fired.

A huge explosion swept everything away, tearing at the Earth itself. Sirzechs flew away from the area of impact, assessing the situation. The two of them were able to significantly injure Rizevim, who was a descendant of Lucifer himself.

Out of all the Satan descendants, he was the only one who was the most difficult to deal with. While the rest were troublesome, Rizevim was worse. He was...

"Sirzechs, I will hold him off. Either we do a combined attack, I go solo, or you support. I can go any way," Hisashi said, just as soon as he flickered away.

In one fraction of a second, a lot of things had taken place. The Vizard appeared beside Rizevim like an executioner ready to pass on a death sentence. Rizevim, sensing this, countered with a backhand fist that would have surely knocked his opponent out.

Hisashi raised a hand to block Rizevim's blow, sending a wave of pain across his arm.

He could not feel anything after said appendage absorbed the force behind the attack. The silver-eyed devil, seeing no need to pursue with his attack, took a step back to avoid the vertical slash.

Within the next fraction, the blonde performed another slash. This time, he tried to bisect him from his crotch upwards.

'Damn, this guy plays dirty!' Rizevim thought as he sidestepped to the left, but then he saw no one in front of him. Instead of his opponent, a giant blast of destruction nearly swallowed him whole. As he evaded the attack, he felt his blood run cold down his shoulder.

Reacting to his instincts, he avoided having his arm cut in half.

Hisashi took a step forward, adopting a martial arts stance. He punched out to the 'Bat King' descendant with all the power he could manage. Rizevim folded as he spat a mouthful of blood before being rocketed at breakneck speed.

Waiting for him was Sirzechs, with a sword of condensed Power of Destruction within his hand. With a quick swipe of his sword, he lost his right arm. Rizevim opened his eyes in shock, seeing his own blood gush out like a fountain.

To add to his current predicament, he sensed a burst of energy that made him open his eyes in disbelief. The human had reached peak Satan-class strength in an instant. It then finally came to him that he had never used that technique once in their battle. If he could back him into a corner the entire battle, then what about now?

Soon, a shadow loomed over him as he felt his skull being smashed in. Everything went dark as the ground began to close in on him.

Hisashi had both fists clenched into hammers, watching Rizevim's descent.

50 metres.

40 metres.

10 metres.

Crash!

The ground caved in as the body of Rizevim Lucifer scarred the Earth. A deep crater formed as he laid there, utterly defeated in every way imaginable.

Hisashi was covered in dark crimson energy before it slowly receded. He struggled to breathe, supporting himself with the sword he held. He collapsed on the floor, exhaustion finally settling in after overexerting himself to do one final task.

Kill Rizevim Livan Lucifer...

'I failed...'

I felt someone catching me before I ended up eating dirt. The final words I heard contrasted the feeling of inadequacy within me.

"You did good kiddo." Sirzechs said as he lifted me like a sack of potatoes. Not that I had the mental clarity to complain.
