The battle took place on the public battlefield in the Central Park of Willow Creek Community.
Due to New Year's Eve, there were quite a few people setting off fireworks near the Central Park. When they noticed the lights on the battlefield, their attention was drawn to the area.
However, a ray of purple and black light soon surrounded the battlefield. This was Gengar's power, used by Alexis, to shield the area, preventing others from approaching or seeing what was happening inside.
Chris and Alexis were already in position.
The duel was judged by Elliot, while the other seniors accompanied Vladimir and the teacher to the audience seats to watch the battle.
"Student, senior doesn't bully you. I'll use my second team of Pokémon so the battle won't be too one-sided," Alexis said with a smirk.
Before Chris could respond, Elliot interjected on his behalf.
"Your arrogance hasn't changed. Sooner or later, someone will take you down!" Elliot snapped.
"Chris, crush him! If you win, I'll introduce you to a beautiful student from the medical school!" someone cheered from the sidelines.
"Referee, announce the battle rules already! Why so much chatter?" Alexis said, irritated.
Elliot glared at Alexis with a fiery intensity, as though her stare could cut through him.
Chris wiped his sweat silently. Dealing with these two big personalities was no easy feat.
"The rules are simple—one-on-one. The battle ends when one side's Pokémon is unable to fight. Now, both participants can send out their Pokémon!" Elliot announced, signaling to Chris and Alexis.
Both participants threw their Poké Balls into the air at the same time.
Alexis's Pokémon was Haxorus. Its olive-green armor gleamed under the lights, and its red claws and blade-like tusks gave it the appearance of a battle-hardened warrior.
"Roar!" Haxorus bellowed as its presence radiated outwards, creating a soundwave that pushed back the air within two meters. Its intimidating display left a lasting impression on the audience.
Despite not being a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, Haxorus was often compared to one due to its immense power and impressive speed, traits that made it a fearsome opponent.
"When did your Haxorus get demoted to the second team? Wasn't it one of your main Pokémon?" Elliot asked, incredulous.
"That was before," Alexis replied, puffing out his chest. "I recently caught another powerful Dragon-type Pokémon while training with Brother Roy. Haxorus now trains the second team. Just you wait—I'm the next Elite!"
Chris, fully aware of the opponent's strength, sent out Gardevoir, a decision made to counter Alexis's specialty as a Dragon-type Gym Leader. Chris had anticipated this matchup, but it was still luck that his prediction was correct.
"Ah…" Alexis sighed in resignation. His Dragon-type was now at a disadvantage. While Chris couldn't predict whether his opponent would send out an Ice- or Dragon-type, the matchup was still in his favor.
"Shiny Gardevoir!" Elliot's eyes sparkled.
"Referee, please act professionally! This is a match!" Alexis scolded as Elliot pulled out her phone to snap pictures of Gardevoir.
"Gardevoir, Mega Evolve!" Chris commanded, activating his Mega Ring. A rainbow light erupted from Gardevoir's Mega Stone. With a burst of energy, Gardevoir transformed, emerging as Mega Gardevoir in a flowing black gown.
"Shiny Mega Gardevoir!" Elliot exclaimed, fully engrossed in its elegance.
Not only Lian but also his girlfriend, Keyla, couldn't resist pulling out her phone to take pictures.
Girls often find it hard to resist beautiful things.
Even Alexis felt the urge to take out his phone. A Shiny Gardevoir was an extraordinarily rare sight, let alone one that had undergone Mega Evolution. He couldn't recall anyone else owning one, and he doubted even the internet had pictures of such a marvel.
But as tempting as it was to capture the moment, Alexis had more pressing matters: figuring out how Haxorus could overcome the overwhelming disadvantage against Mega Gardevoir, its natural nemesis.
After taking several photos, Elliot finally put away her phone and turned to Chris. "Junior, when the battle ends, let me take a few more pictures with Mega Gardevoir!"
Chris nodded in agreement, and with that, Elliot raised her hand. "Begin the battle!"
"Gardevoir, use Moonblast!" Chris commanded.
"Haxorus, Dragon Dance!" Alexis shouted simultaneously.
Mega Gardevoir gracefully raised its hands, gathering energy for Moonblast. The night sky darkened, and the crescent moon above seemed to shine brighter. A cascade of pink energy poured from the sky like a relentless meteor shower, bombarding the battlefield with ferocious intensity.
Unlike before its Mega Evolution, the Moonblast's power was now devastatingly enhanced. The pink torrent resembled a celestial downpour rather than a simple attack.
Haxorus roared, its arms spread wide as it executed Dragon Dance. With its high proficiency in the move, it no longer needed specific actions to channel its effects.
"Wide Guard!" Alexis commanded urgently.
Haxorus sensed the incoming devastation and quickly slammed the ground with its claw. A shimmering barrier spread out around it, barely fending off the relentless Moonblast. It was clear that only Haxorus's mastery of Dragon Dance and Wide Guard saved it. Against any other Pokémon, Mega Gardevoir's devastating special attack would have likely been a one-hit KO.
"Dazzling Gleam!" Chris followed up.
Mega Gardevoir moved with breathtaking speed, appearing behind Haxorus, a glowing orb of pink light forming in its hands.
But Haxorus, a battle-hardened Dragon Pokémon, was not so easily outmaneuvered. Its instincts kicked in, and it spun around reflexively. A sharp, dark green Dragon Claw lashed out at the incoming attack.
"Boom!" The Dazzling Gleam was torn apart mid-air by Haxorus's Dragon Claw.
The battlefield crackled with residual energy as both trainers and spectators braced for the next clash.
