It was the time when they were leaving Lockwood Mansion.
Edric and Alex stood in the back garden, talking quietly.
"Don't you think they'll keep coming after you?" Edric asked, his voice low. "Their lives basically depend on it. If you show up at the trials, they're finished. I don't think they'll ever stop."
They were about to head out to track down and finish off the immortal servants in a few hours when Edric suddenly brought up something heavier.
Not that Alex hadn't thought about it already.
"There are still eight months left," Alex said calmly. "I'll just keep dodging them or killing them. Good training dummies, if anything."
Edric gave a small nod, but Alex could tell he wasn't done. There was something else weighing on his mind.
"I know you'll only get stronger as time goes on," Edric said after a pause. "But the ones we're dealing with... they might not fight fair."
Alex frowned, sensing the shift in Edric's tone. He stayed silent, waiting for him to continue.
