The people were no longer demanding explanations—they were demanding blood. His blood, if it came to that.
Their chants, once faint, now rose like a deafening chorus:
"Expose the guilty!"
"Bring the monsters to justice!"
"No second term for a traitor!"
The governor's face darkened. His fists clenched harder behind him.
They dare... they dare accuse me, he thought, hatred boiling beneath his skin.
After everything I have done for this state, after everything I have sacrificed...
But deep down, he knew—this was no longer just about his son. This was bigger. A system he thought he controlled was now unraveling right before his eyes, and the people were demanding to see the names, the faces of all the powerful men who had preyed on the weak behind closed doors.
And if I don't stop this now, he realized grimly, I won't just lose my second term.
