"What's the problem with that wolf? Did they kill it?"
"Not necessarily; there could be an issue with the wolf's identity."
Cai Rang's gaze became momentarily confused, a bit slow to respond.
He thought for a moment, then ventured, "Are you saying the wolf killed by the Big Brown Bear was the Wolf King?"
"No, if it had been the Wolf King, the pack would have quickly dispersed and chosen a new Wolf King. But this pack seemed very organized all along. I suspect they accidentally let the Wolf Queen die at the hands of the Big Brown Bear, and it's possible she was a pregnant Wolf Queen."
Cai Rang's mouth hung open for a long while before he cursed using a local profanity.
"No way, we need to get the stationmaster to clarify this; it's too damn messed up."
"Your asking won't help; they are engaged in a geological water source survey and are not familiar with animals. Moreover, a non-reproductive female wolf, even if pregnant, wouldn't show obvious signs."
