Chapter 22 - Theodosius ascends the throne

Year: 1275 AD

Caesarian Empire

New Rome Forum

A few months ago

The Caesarian Senate was in a long debate whether to depose Emperor Antonius I,the senate was divided into three factions, the legalists, defenders of the permanence of the Octavian Dynasty in power, the reformists, defenders of the population that was not noble voting for senators and a political reform that would restore the political system more similar to that of the Roman Republic and finally, the Theodosianists, defenders that Claudius Theodosius should ascend to the Caesarian throne.

The senators were once again discussing whether or not Emperor Antonius I should remain, when Senator Marcus Favarus of the province of St. Michael ascended the pulpit and said to the senators:

"It's a shame that an incompetent like Antonius is our emperor! He's simply wasting our resources on binges with our money! My province had an earthquake two years ago and this incompetent left us without any assistance, because we on the West Coast were against his ascension to the Caesarian throne and therefore vetoes any project that benefits the improvement of West Coast, so I speak! Down with Antonius I, the unfit, and long live Claudius Theodosius, future Caesarian emperor!" said Marcus.

Like wildfire, the West Coast senators applauded and Senator Paulus Germanicus of the province of New Massilia took the stand, pushed Marcus and said:

"You are all conspiring against our Emperor Antonius I!!!! You want to destroy the stability of our empire with unfounded rumors! The Caesarian legions should enter here and arrest all of you for treason!!!! Down with the traitors and long live the Octavian Dynasty!!!" said Paulus.

A small group of senators applauded him, most of whom were from the region of Canada, which just happened to be the home region of the Octavian Dynasty.

Senator Paulus Germanicus was furious and shouted:

"You want to betray our emperor!!! I will not let such a thing happen, you will have to kill me first so that the Theodosius ascends to the Caesarian throne!" shouted Paulus.

Senators from the West Coast, East Coast and New Cyprus walked out of the New Rome Forum, leaving only the senators from the Canadian region, which showed that the government was close to collapse.

New Rome Hippodrome

A few weeks ago

Emperor Antonius I celebrating his 60th birthday, he decided to go to the Hippodrome to celebrate and with that a special chariot race took place, he wanted to see the population's reception of his government.

For the first time, in addition to the traditional Albati, Russati, Prasini and Veneti, now had the Purpura and the Indigo, these new colors represented a way to update the National Race and race would now have five laps and this was the moment to test its popularity.

The race began and the six charioteers took off, the population cheered with the race, with each lap the population got excited until the final lap ended and the winner was the representative of the Veneti,Lucius Tarquinius, who held the laurel wreath and said to the packed Hippodrome the following words:

"Long live Claudius Theodosius! Our true emperor!" said Lucius.

The population applauded and supported Lucius' words, which significantly irritated Antonius who ordered the leader of the Hippodrome guards:

"Arrest this traitor, he will bitterly regret inciting the population against the Emperor of all Romans!!!" Antonius ordered.

The leader of the guards ordered the arrest of the winner of the race. As soon as he was arrested, the population booed the guards and, realizing the situation was deteriorating, Antonius left the place with his guards as quickly as possible from the Hippodrome and avoid the angry population.

This arrest made what was previously absurd now unacceptable, so the nobles of the West Coast, tired of so much neglect from the Caesarian emperor Antonius I, proclaimed in the summer of that same year the Kingdom of New Chersonia.

As the senators prepared to vote to depose the Caesarian emperor Antonius I, the senator of New Rome Cicero Majorianus took to the pulpit and said:

"We are here in case of urgency to save our territorial unity, for that we must depose this government as soon as possible and put another dynasty in its place, let's start voting for which dynasty will succeed." said Cicero.

Voting began and the senators placed each of their votes in a box. It lasted about an hour until all the senators had voted and the counting took place normally.

After the vote count was over, Cicero said:

" As expected, the Caesarian Senate voted with more than 90 votes in favor of the deposition of the Caesarian Emperor Antonius I and 20 votes in favor of the maintenance of the Caesarian Emperor Antonius I, I declare that now the former Emperor Antonius I is destitute from his office as Caesarian emperor." said Cicero.

Most of the senators applauded and the senators, mostly from Canada, walked out of the Forum of Nova Roma, showing their outrage at the deposition of former Emperor Antonius I.

The senators then decided to hold another vote on which dynasty would ascend the Caesarian throne next week, thus giving the senators time to choose which dynasty would ascend the throne.

New Rome Forum

Now

The Caesarian Senate was ready to vote when the Legatus Legionis of the 15th Caesarian Legion, Claudius Theodosius arrived from his long journey from Korea, learned that the former emperor had been deposed and he would be acclaimed emperor by the Caesarian Senate, then, realizing that this would be the moment when, finally, after centuries, the Theodosians would ascend to the highest position in the Caesarian Empire.

Claudius and his Caesarian legionaries entered the Forum and waited for the senators to vote, until the senators finished voting and as expected, Claudius became Caesarian emperor and his soldiers together with the senators asked for the traditional speech of the Caesarian emperor.

Claudius, at the age of 30, became the greatest victorious leader of his entire generation, with more than 25 victories and having as its leadership the battle of Pyongyang which became the greatest Roman victory since the battle of Guangzhou in the 9th century, thus surpassing Alexander the Great and equaling to Julius Caesar, then he goes up to the pulpit and begins the traditional speech of the Caesarian emperor to the Forum of New Rome:

"Today is a day to celebrate, after centuries, the Family that discovered the New World, arrives at the Caesarean throne and I thank the senators who voted to remove that incompetent and vain man of the highest office in the Caesarian Empire.I propose a reform in the army and even in the economy, we are the civilization that humiliated the Huns in the Catalaunian Fields, defeated the Germans and Avars in Adrianople and defeated the Mongols in Pyongyang, we are heirs of the Western Roman Empire and we have as an obligation to bring the glory of our ancestors to the New World, we are the only nation that can destroy those savages, just as it was we who vanquished those savage Lombards from our ancestral land, I heard rumors that the nobles of the West Coast were rebelling against the former emperor, if this is true, I will have to use my power as Caesarian emperor to end the rebellion, you will see what the Theodosius will do with this nation, we will rebuild a nation that was given to an incompetent." said Claudius.

The Forum of New Rome applauded Claudius' speech and soon the news spread throughout the city, Claudius was the new emperor and thus the Theodosian Dynasty began.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the Legatus Legionis of the 18th Caesarean Legion, Otto Marcus, declared himself King of Nova Chersonia and began his expansion by conquering the West Coast completely, thus an internal threat would have to be fought and the Mongols would have their moments of peace to focus against the Europeans, Arabs, Turks and Chinese.
