"Alright, here's the plan," the pro hero began, with a steeady voice.
"You'll be Hawk's or my protégé. that will be decided by the director of the public hero safety commision. Hawks or I will mentor you and introduce you to the bureau way of work. For now, your role is simple: play the part of the ideal new recruit and gradually gather information from within. I'll provide you with a device designed to collect data subtly. We'll start small, focusing on minor details and building from there."
She paused, eyes narrowing with sudden inspiration. "Actually, I want to test something. Let's go. Maybe we can even kick off the plan with a slight adjustment, let's go to do the presentations now, I think it could be good if we do it today, the director should probably now you are here."
Without waiting for a response, she spun on her heel and strode out of the building with a quick pace.
Raiden didn't question her; he just followed. If there was one thing everyone knew about Kaina, it was that when she decided to "test" something, she never bothered to explain herself deeply, and strangely it was a good way of teaching, at least in his opinion.
Her mind worked in swift, unpredictable bursts, and interrupting her process was pointless, it was better to just adapt.
As they moved through the dimly lit corridors, Raiden's thoughts churned.
Kaina's plans were always layered, always calculated—even the ones that seemed impulsive. He kept his eyes on her, trying to decipher her intent from the subtle tension in her shoulders.
They emerged into the cool evening air, the city stretching out before them, alive with distant lights and muted sounds. Raiden quickened his pace to match hers, his curiosity sparking despite his better judgment. Whatever this test was, he would have to be ready.
An hour later, Raiden found himself standing alone in the middle of a training field within the Hero Public Safety Commission's main building. The vast, sterile space was lined with reinforced panels, designed to withstand even the most destructive Quirks.
From the sidelines, Kaina spoke with someone in hushed, urgent tones. She stood several yards away, her posture was tense.
The man she argued with was the director of the bureau, his expression was stern and skeptical.
Their conversation seemed heated, words exchanged with increasing intensity until, at its peak, Kaina jabbed a finger in Raiden's direction before striding toward him with determination etched into her features.
Raiden's unease grew as he watched her approach. Without a word, Kaina activated her Quirk, her gaze locked onto him with a chilling focus.
"K-Kaina? What's happening?" Raiden stammered, his voice wavering as he saw her raise her weapon and take aim. His instincts kicked in, adrenaline spiking through his veins. His arm began to glow as he activated his own Quirk, transforming just as Kaina fired.
The shot rang out, cutting through the air with brutal precision. Raiden reacted instantly, his telekinesis flaring to life. The bullet halted midair, trembling and spinning furiously against his mental grip.
'What are you doing?' Raiden's voice echoed directly into Kaina's mind, his tone sharp with confusion and frustration.
She responded immediately, her thoughts calm and controlled. 'Just fight. I told him I'd be retiring in a year and that you were a potential successor alongside Hawks. I said Hawks and I would train you—show you the ropes here. But for that, the director needs proof. He needs to see your strength for himself. Don't worry, everything is within the plan'
Raiden's mind raced, piecing together her plan.
She'd decided to accelerate things without warning him first. And worse, they didn't discuted the plan.
Also, the man watching them was likely aware of the full extent of Raiden's abilities, so he couldn't use them to his advantage in infiltration, he was thinking on developing another power or something, and now everything was rushed. But before he could voice his complaints, Kaina's voice slipped into his thoughts again, answering his unspoken concerns.
'The director's paranoid—he won't take my word for it or trust whatever reports I hand him. If we want to convince him, we have to show him what you're capable of. Otherwise, he'll choose myreplacement himself. But I know he's curious about you, about the versatility of your powers. So come at me with everything you've got. Not that you could beat me anyway, also is better for his paranoid mind if he think we dediced this last night in a whim, and isn't something planned.'
Her words were a challenge, an invitation and an order all at once. Raiden clenched his fists, his eyes narrowing as the bullet still spun in the air, its energy pushing against his willpower. Whatever Kaina's motives, one thing was clear—he'd have to prove himself here and now.
Raiden frowned as he responded to Kaina, but a smirk tugged at his lips. Just a day ago, he'd been complaining about the dullness of his holiday, and now here he was—locked in combat with one of the most formidable heroes alive.
Without hesitating, he clapped his hands, summoning two shadowy orbs that shot toward Kaina with blistering speed.
In response, she fired two quick, precise shots, her bullets colliding with the shadow balls midair. The resulting explosions sent rippling shockwaves across the training field, a testament to the sheer force behind Kaina's attacks.
Even from such a small clash, it was clear her bullets carried immense power. But Kaina was never one to rely on a single tactic. In the blink of an eye, she closed the distance between them, her rifle aimed directly at Raiden's face.
Raiden stared down the weapon's barrel, unfazed. His expression remained calm as he activated both Agility and Double Team.
Kaina pulled the trigger, but her bullet tore through nothing but an afterimage, embedding itself harmlessly into the ceiling. Before the echo of the shot faded, Raiden retaliated, launching a Mega Kick aimed at her side.
Kaina reacted instantly, blocking the blow with her arm. The impact cracked the ground beneath her feet, chunks of concrete splintering outward as the force of the strike sent them both flying. Raiden rocketed upward, stabilizing himself near the ceiling, while Kaina was hurled backward toward the far corner of the field.
Barely a second had passed before Raiden had to twist sharply to avoid another bullet, the shot whizzing past him with ruthless precision.
The evasive maneuver threw off his balance momentarily, but he recovered quickly, launching a barrage of Swift attacks that sparkled like shards of light as they tore through the air toward Kaina.
He surged forward, charging behind his own attack, his fists radiating a brilliant white glow.
"Mega Punch!"
He unleashed a relentless flurry of blows, each punch backed by both strength and speed. Kaina weaved through the assault.
As he pressed the attack, he activated his telekinesis, directing it toward Kaina to slow her movements just enough to break through her defenses.
The air around them hummed with purple energy, it quickly turned into a visual spectacle. the intensity of their clash building with every strike and counter.
Raiden charged forward at high speed, chasing his own attack with relentless determination. But doubt gnawed at him. Why would Kaina lie to him? Why change the plan so suddenly, on the very same day, and in a completely different way than she had just explained?
His thoughts splintered as a sharp pain tore through his leg.
"Don't lose focus, kid."
The bullet had pierced clean through, leaving a raw, bleeding hole. Gritting his teeth, Raiden activated Life Dew, the wound knitting itself closed as a faint glow shimmered over his skin. But he couldn't afford to relax.
Without hesitation, he doubled down—activating Agility again, after the pain make him lose focus and sharpening his focus with Calm Mind increasin his fire power, bracing himself for what was coming.
He pressed his hands together, concentrating his psychic energy until it condensed into a volatile mass. When the pressure reached its peak, he unleashed a Psyshock blast three times stronger than usual.
Kaina reacted instantly. With impossible speed, she fired her rifle at the ground, using the recoil to propel herself out of harm's way. The Psyshock struck where she'd been standing, obliterating the ground and leaving a deep, jagged gash.
Raiden didn't let up. He sent a barrage of Confusion attacks hurtling toward her, hoping to catch her off guard. But Kaina's agility was beyond anything he'd faced before. She wove through the glowing orbs like water flowing around rocks, her movements sharp and fluid.
Every attempt to land a hit failed. Her speed was absurd almost as fast as Hawks'. And her precision was terrifying, maybe higher than teacher Snipe.
Each bullet she fired was meticulously aimed, her Quirk allowing her to reload with blinding efficiency.
Raiden's eyes narrowed as he watched her pull bullets from her hair, seamlessly loading them into her rifle with a speed that bordered on inhuman.
The air was thick with the crack of gunfire, and Raiden could only dodge or deflect so many. Some of her bullets sliced through his skin, leaving shallow cuts that stung and throbbed.
He was on the defensive now, struggling to keep up with her relentless assault. Her speed and precision made her a nightmare to fight. No wonder she had taken down that organization's executive so quickly, this meant that the woman he helped her fight, was way stronger than he thought.
Kaina was more than just fast—she was devastatingly efficient.
Far stronger than Hawks, a monster in her own right. But it was more than that. Hawks excelled at reconnaissance and swift strikes, but Kaina? She was something else entirely.
If Raiden had to define her, she defenitely was an assassin type of fighter, built for precision and lethality. While Endeavor was a warrior—powerful, overwhelming, a blazing inferno of strength—Kaina was a blade in the dark. Sharp. Silent. Lethal.
Raiden could tell she was holding back. Kaina's bullets tore through the air with deadly precision, but none aimed for his vitals. No, it wasn't just restraint—it was him pushing himself harder to avoid them. She wasn't trying to kill him; she was testing him.
But he needed to counter. To break her rhythm.
He understood now—Even if this was all a show, an elaborate performance meant for the Director's eyes, she took this oportunity to train him even more. Kaina wanted the Director to take an interest in Raiden, to pull him under the Public Hero Safety Commission's wing, but it also wanted to refine Raiden fighting methods.
He focused his psychic energy, weaving it into a barrier before him. It wouldn't stop the bullets outright—he already knew that.
Kaina's shots were too fast, too precise. But brute force wasn't the goal. Instead, he shaped the energy into a wave, parting the onslaught like water, deflecting the bullets just enough to carve a path straight toward her.
Range combat was pointless against her. Not because he lacked power—his attacks packed more than enough force—but because of her sheer volume of fire.
Her Quirk allowed her to grow bullets from her hair at an alarming rate, an endless arsenal constantly reloading and firing with flawless efficiency. Raiden, on the other hand, had limits. A finite pool of abilities to draw from before exhaustion set in.
He couldn't afford to be outlasted.
Charging forward, Raiden maintained the psychic wave, redirecting bullets just enough to slip through her barrage. But he needed more. Something new. Something that could overwhelm her speed and precision.
He pushed his limits, straining his mind and body as he attempted something he had never tried before. Multicasting different type of moves.
He'd done it before with pure energy attacks, but this time was different. This time, he attempted to multicast special attacks with a physical one.
One hadow Ball crackled with dark energy in each of his hands, and his tail glowed with raw power, its radiance flickering like a blade sharpening itself. He could feel the strain of balancing the attacks, his nerves screaming under the pressure, but he pushed forward.
When he closed the distance enough, Raiden hurled the twin Shadow Balls straight at Kaina. She reacted instantly, firing bullets to intercept them. The attacks collided, detonating with a forceful blast that sent dust and debris swirling through the air.
But Raiden had anticipated her counter.
Two more Shadow Balls soared through the haze, trailing behind the first set like shadows in pursuit.
Kaina's eyes narrowed as she realized the trick. This time, she couldn't simply shoot them down. Instead, she twisted her body, sidestepping with a grace that bordered on inhuman.
She moved like a dancer, her fluid motions effortlessly dodging the incoming attacks. But Raiden saw something else—a fleeting moment where she wasn't firing back.
The twin explosions erupted with a force that sent a sharp gust of air whipping past Kaina, tossing her hair into disarray. The shockwave rippled outward.
Before she could fully regain her footing, his tail lashed out with brutal precision, striking her rifle-like arm with a fierce, bone-rattling impact.
The blow bent her arm at an awkward angle, metal groaning under the strain. The sheer force of the strike didn't just destabilize her—it hurled both of them backward, each sent spiraling away by the powerful recoil.
End of the chapter.
