Martin barged in, gun drawn, stance lethal and military-precise. The damn man even did that tactical corner sweep as if assassins were crouched behind our potted plant.
I jerked, nearly falling off Richard's lap. Richard tightened his arm possessively around my waist as we both stared at Martin in disbelief.
Because apparently everyone in this house had made a collective decision to send me into cardiac arrest tonight.
"I heard you scream," Martin announced, lowering the weapon only after confirming no masked intruders were hiding in the curtains. His eyes landed on Richard and me tangled on the bed, arms wrapped around each other.
"That's what you get when you sneak-attack me in the middle of the night!" I snapped, grabbing the nearest pillow and launching it at Martin's smug face. "I wake up the entire neighbourhood!"
Martin swatted the pillow aside.
"I apologise. Carry on," Martin said, giving us a knowing nod. Then he backed out of the room.
