Chapter 109 - 109. Ashveil Investigation (4)

"In this world, Gods don't exist."

That was the last thing Akeru heard before the entire scenery changed for him.

He was standing in a graveyard.

A very familiar graveyard.

The air was musky, mist clouding the entire place.

At foot of each tombstone, head of a glass coffin was visible, along with the person inside it.

"NO!" Akeru suddenly felt a rush of fear in his entire being.

His body started shaking.

His heartbeat quickened.

It was quite a bizarre sight, even for him.

'Why... why am I feeling this emotion? I shouldn't react this extremely to it, right?' Somehow, pushing away the fear that clouded his mind, a logical question came to his mind.

The place he was standing was clearer than the dream he had had a few weeks back.

However, that shouldn't have been enough for him to feel that much emotion.

'I need to escape.' AKeru realized that whatever is happening is most likely related to that guard's magic and has to stop it before he loses his sanity completely.

CREAK

Suddenly, the sound of something getting opened echoed through the entire graveyard.

CREAK

CREAK

CREAK

Which was followed by multiple instances of the same sounds.

THUMP

THUMP

Akeru's heart started beating so much faster that he felt that it might come out of his body at any moment now.

In front of him, the corpses have risen from their graves.

Akeru felt his eyes moisten as another emotion gripped his being.

Sorrow.

Multiple thoughts started forming in Akeru's mind.

'I was the one who killed them.'

'Friends? Are you sure that you could call yourself their friend when you killed them?'

'Is this how you repay others?'

For the first time in a long time, Akeru's optimism wasn't able to shut these thoughts.

Reality was in front of him.

After all, everyone present were familiar faces to him.

It was an inevitable future.

Akeru didn't know when, but he found himself thinking about this being an inevitable future.

The thought has already gotten deep rooted in his mind.

Guilt started building up inside him.

"Akeru… I thought we were friends." Finral was the first one to open his mouth.

He had a horrified expression on his face, not wanting to believe that this happened.

Vanessa took a swig from her wine bottle that was present in her coffin.

"Tch… this some kind of sick dream? Or is this what you've been hiding from us all along?" Her tone was upset and a frown marred her expression.

"You… you filth! How dare you betray the grace of House Vermillion like this?!" For the first time in a long while, Akeru saw raw emotions on Kirsch's face.

If he is not saying things in his usual narcistic tone, then something is definitely wrong.

"You… you wouldn't do this, right? You wouldn't… hurt your friends, right?" Akeru had never seen a shocked expression on Charmy's face.

"I don't think I can ever eat with you again." Her next words made Akeru felt as if daggers were pierced in his heart.

"You!... Why did you do this? You monster!" Noelle's words hit him deep.

Akeru didn't had courage to meet any of their eyes, anymore.

"Akeru. Tell me why." Fuegoleon's tone was firm, yet disappointment was evident in the tone.

He found the words in his mouth not leaving his throat anymore.

"You're really losin' it, huh? Thought you had more backbone than this."

Yami was the only one with an indifferent expression among everyone present here.

"Boss... do you think your decision was worth taking?" Erza looked him in the eye with an intense gaze.

"You… you killed me? Is this some kind of joke, Akeru?! You fought beside me—trained with me! You were my biggest RIVAL... And you threw it all away?!" Leopold had a heartbroken expression.

He had experienced the biggest betrayal in his life.

'I-...'

His guilt peaked at this moment.

He wanted to say something, but he has no words to tell them.

What was he supposed to do?

His gaze shifted to the only person who didn't said anything-- Mimosa.

To Akeru, her expression said more words than any of them.

'I want to die.'

Akeru started having suicidal thoughts.

The emotions he was feeling started consuming him.

It was too much for him to handle.

He had started believing everything here to be true.

For him, the lines between reality and illusion has long blurred.

Even if he knew that the emotions he was feeling were artificially ingested in him, they were at the end just the magnified version of what he would have felt normally.

Just as he felt that he had lost sanity completely, something changed.

It was subtle initially but it became apparent instantly.

The emotions... weren't there anymore... No, they were still there, still getting intense.

However, they didn't reached him.

He stopped feeling emotions completely.

'Bystander's Magic: Bystander's Indifference'

He had unlocked a new spell due to this predicament.

However, Akeru wasn't happy about this.

He... to him, the world was now looking different.

The scenery had already changed back to where he was standing before, with the guard backed off from him.

The light of the grimoire stopped coming off from Akeru's chest.

"The Missing Piece is finally complete."

The world slowed down as Akeru activated 'Still Spectator' and started analyzing everything that transpired till now.

'I need to uncover his abilities and his motives.' Akeru decided his goal and started working towards it.

"Fear." The guard said as Akeru instantly felt a foreign mana enter his body and induce an emotion to him.

Akeru didn't stopped the mana despite having the ability to.

He didn't really needed to.

The guard furrowed his brows as he instantly realized that Akeru was somehow able to cut off his emotions.

Moreover, Akeru was acting weird to him.

He then forces Tsukimi to user her magic on Akeru.

However, before he could fully transmit the command fully, multiple water bullets shot out of Akeru towards Tsukimi and Rudra.

THUMP

THUMP

Both of them were knocked out with their heads bleeding.

'Such force wasn't necessary at all... or did he wanted to sever the connection of my magic from them?' The guard's magic won't work on another person if they are knocked unconscious, and if there was a link beforehand, it would be nullified when a person loses consciousness.

"Anger" He decided to attack the two Black Bulls.

Finral and Vanessa's heads did morph into an angry face.

They... they were feeling pure raw unfiltered anger.

The target Akeru.

THUMP

THUMP

They were knocked out in a similar manner as the previous two.

The guard with his medical expertise knew that even if Akeru hit the heads of all 4, they won't get any permanent damage after getting healed.

It was pretty effective as it quickly severed the connection with his magic, not allowing him to cause permanent psychological to them.

BANG BANG BANG

Multiple bullets of water speeded through the air, all heading towards the guard at speeds multiple times faster than any of the previous bullets.

However, the guard calmly watched those bullets come just as a shell made of water surrounded his entire body, easily neutralizing those water bullets.

The water shell was a spell that was very familiar to Akeru.

It was none other than Seraph's Shell!

Despite the fact that the guard was somehow able to use it, Akeru didn't had any change in his expressions.

He didn't felt surprise because in his current state, he was incapable of feeling emotions.

To the current Akeru, this was just information that would help him complete his goal.

WHOOSH

Akeru reached near the shell in the instant and thrusted his palm at the shell.

His palm was coated with lightning phasing between red and green in colour.

BOOOOOMMM

Vibratory Chaos wasn't able to break the shell's defenses as it the shell itself also incorporates Vibratory Chaos in itself.

Seeing this, Akeru backed away.

Akeru met the guard's gaze, his expression indifferent.

His next words shocked the guard.

"You can use Mana method too along with my spells... You have a spell which allows you to read other person's memories. You must have read my memories of past 3 years. If you had read memories of more than that time, you wouldn't have these imperfected spells."

A/n- Okay, I know that this may cause some readers to not like this fact, but I would say that let me cook.

Also, can you guess who the "guard" was inspired from?

*Wink* *Wink*

***

A/n of now- Guys... Well, some of you may already know, but from now on, the updates won't be regular for this fic due to its lack of support.

One major thing I learned from this story is that OC focused, especially in fanfics, kind of ruins the story, which, on hindsight, should be obvious, but I think a more appropriate reason would be that my story wasn't consistent with the themes/ideas it portrayed from the start. Like, if I had gone with OC focused from the beginning, then most of the people would already know what they are getting into and decide to continue on that.

However, I changed the initial idea, which led to the readers not being satisfied with that. I will make sure that I am consistent with my themes for my next work.

Here's the synopsis of my next work, which is in progress:

Time isn't a gift. It's a mirror.

I wasn't meant to have a good quirk. I wasn't supposed to remember another life. I definitely wasn't supposed to know how the story ends.

But I do.

And the more I bend time, the less I fit into it.

These days, I pretend. I smile. I act like I'm normal.

Most people buy it. Some don't. The ones that don't... usually worry.

My quirk makes me powerful. My friends keep me grounded.

But when you train in a time-dilated world, reality gets slippery.

What's real? What's recent? What's worth remembering?

I care about people—I think. I want to protect them—I'm pretty sure.

But the more I become my quirk, the more I stop being me.

This isn't a story about going mad with power.

It's about what happens when madness comes quietly—and no one notices you're already gone.

***

What to Expect:

Reincarnated MC with meta knowledge of canon

Time manipulation powers—OP, but with consequences

A protagonist who's already snapped, pretending to be normal.

Overpowered with weak-to-strong progression

Focus on canon characters and dynamics, not OC filler

Expanded worldbuilding: international heroes, quirk tiers and awakenings, and the tech side of the hero world

———————————————————

So, how was that?

This is the tentative synopsis of my newest fic.

Initially, I had a Tensura fic in mind, but suddenly this idea came into my mind and I wanted to try if this would work or not.

MHA has been a world that I always wanted to explore at some point, and I think no time better than the present.
