Chapter 13 - What Are You?

After getting back to the Manor Kyla noticed the usual maids walking around but didn't see the one she was looking for "Hey!" Kyla called out as the maids snapped their attention towards her.

"Where's Emily?" She asked as they pointed below their feet indicating that he was still shackled up in the dungeon below as she made her way down by teleporting. Once in front of the bars she saw two beautiful almost glowing silver irises- like polished moonlight in liquid form.

His pupils were slit vertically sharper and narrower than a blade's edge, flashing whenever she moved and focusing. A faint ring of deep cobalt blue circles the outer edge of the silver iris, a telltale mark of the rare White Weretiger bloodline.

The air near his eyes seems to ripple slightly, like the distorted air over a desert road, signifying the now raw, barely contained wildness within him 'Eyes that made the wild itself hold its breath.' Kyla said as she found herself nearly frozen in place.

Seeing this Kyla knew for sure that Indra was special, out of the five Were-kin tribes here under the Tempest manor was proof of a third tribe still living. But with this sight in mind it also brings confusion.

"How are you a Were-kin and a Draconian at the same time?" Kyla asked as he continued to stare at her from the darkness of his cell "I will keep your secret, I want to help you." She said as she heard a scoff "You don't wanna help me. You want to figure out how to control me." Indra said as she shook her head slowly.

"I will never control you, I'd rather die before I put a child in harms way." She said as there was silence as his eyes seemed to soften slightly "I…I don't know. I obtained this power at the Vampire manor where Sir Cain and his group found me. The prisoners there knew more about me than I do." Indra said as Kyla could tell she was getting somewhere.

"What did they tell you?" She asked as the sound of footsteps could be heard as Sir Cain could be seen coming into view "Hello Kyla, I didn't realize you were down here." He said while glancing towards Indra who's eyes had reverted back to normal.

"I just recently came down here, I had checked the students into the Hollow-flame inn." Kyla said as Cain gave a low hum "Good judgement call, we don't need them among their own age giving us more work to do." Cain said while looking towards the cell and waved his hand as a lock opening could be heard.

"It's been a rather long night, please make sure he also gets to a bed away from the manor tonight as well." Cain said while walking away "Am I allowed to stay still?" Indra quickly asked as it made Cain halt in his tracks "No one said that you weren't, squabbles don't warrant the homelessness of someone in our need. Good night to the both of you." Cain finished saying as he left them alone.

Curious about more Kyla grabbed his hand and teleported to the HearthWalk "So, what did they tell you?" Kyla asked as Indra figured she wouldn't let the conversation go as they began their walk towards a food cart.

"Not much. Only that my father gave me away to help that Vampire become a Draconian, at the end of it all the prisoners that I was close with made me kill them and afterwards I had their abilities." Indra said as she scrunched her face in confusion.

'The ability to kill someone and maintain their ability? I've never heard of something like that.' Kyla thought inwardly as she stopped in front of a different inn from the one she placed the students.

Thistle and Ember inn and tavern, it has a distinct, welcoming yet slightly wild look—a perfect reflection of the city's demi-human roots.

It's a broad, three-story building made from rich, dark woods salvaged from the Everloom Grove, with pale stone foundations etched in protective runes. It has a gently sloping, moss-covered roof, where flowering thistles and hardy green vines grow naturally.

Thick timber beams frame the structure, reinforced with old iron bolts and studs. The windows are wide and warm-glowing at night, framed with intricate carvings of animals (wolves, tigers, bears) — a homage to the were-tribes.

A large wooden sign swings from a creaky iron bracket outside, carved with a blooming thistle wrapped in flames — the symbol of the inn.

The entrance of the inn is two heavy oak doors with ornate brass handles, shaped like entwined ivy. Often left propped open to let in travelers and scents of food and spiced ale. The first floor— the Tavern room bustling with long wooden tables, mismatched chairs, and a massive stone hearth where a fire is always burning.

A grand bar runs the entire length of one wall, stacked with casks of strong mead, imported human wines, and demi-human brews while antlers, old weapons, and faded banners from ancient battles decorate the walls.

On the upper floors the guest rooms are cozy, each built with thick beams and wide windows. Soft feather beds, patchwork quilts, and small enchanted lanterns to light the night. The atmosphere was rowdy, hearty, and full of life—filled with laughter, music, heated debates about the nobles, and the scent of roasting meats and sweet ales.

"The idea of this place was to be a home away from home for demi-humans, it even shows respect to the were-tribes." Kyla said as she sighed "Try to get some rest tonight, okay?" She said as Indra walked inside as she immediately teleported back to the manor and went to her office.

Going through papers and books she finally came across what she was looking for—the book of Dragons. The book explained and told Draconian linage and lore. Flipping through the pages Kyla was going off a hunch.

Going off what she knows about Silas and Lord Siegfried what Indra told her doesn't match up until it hit her—is it a Draconian Celestial bloodline? The thought of told to anyone else around the manor would laugh and call her crazy but after flipping through the first two families there it was 'The Knightfallen family.' She thought inwardly.

The Knightfallen signature ability "The Echo of the Fallen" A Knightfallen dragonkin can mimic the abilities, skills, and sometimes even magical styles of any being they face in battle—instantly during combat.

Most Knightfallen can only hold a limited number of copied abilities at once which is usually 3–5 at a time. Abilities fade over time unless the Knightfallen makes a permanent bond that is also usually through deep training or emotional connections.

The Knightfallen family like the other Draconian Celestial families were originally created by the Forgotten Gods to be their champions against…horrors.

'What horrors?' Kyla wondered as the word between against and horrors was blacked out making it unreadable but one thing was for certain, Indra was apart of a Draconian Celestial lineage.

To think even they still existed somewhere out there was unbelievable. But now the right questions could be answered 'How many abilities has he already copied?' She thought inwardly while closing the book and knew it was something she would have to be careful not to discuss too openly.
