Joseph looked down at her, and for once, there was a softness in his eyes.
"Oh, I see. Thanks for the heads-up. But let me be clear, even though I don't have feelings for Daniel, I still won't choose you. So stop wasting your time," Chantelle said plainly, leaving no chance for Joseph to misunderstand her.
She didn't know what Joseph was trying to pull. But whatever it was, he had the wrong thought about her.
"How would you know if you don't even give it a try? Don't worry—Daniel might let you down, but I won't," Joseph said, still holding onto her shoulders, trying to convince her.
Chantelle didn't react right away. She simply raised her chin and looked him in the eye.
Her eyes were calm and clear.
"And how do I know you won't? Men always say the right things. I'm not falling for it again."
She glanced toward the room. "Weren't you waiting for Daniel? Then go enjoy your time with those women. I'm done here."
