Cael's pen stilled on the contract in front of him. The same sentence stared back at him for the past ten minutes, completely untouched. He leaned back in his chair, letting out a sigh.
He wasn't usually like this, distracted, daydreaming, smiling like a fool for no reason. His thoughts kept drifting back to last night; Elisa's laugh, the faint vanilla scent that clung to his shirt, the softness in her eyes, the nervous curve of her lips, the way she had fit perfectly in his arms and melted into his embrace.
He'd told her he wanted to do it right this time. A proper date. And he will make sure it was special. Perfect. Something unforgettable.
He'd already started planning.
Then the loud chime of the intercom system crackled to life overhead. A clipped, formal voice announced, "All pack members, available pack members are to report to the pack hall within an hour. This is an impromptu meeting."
Cael's brows shot up.
That wasn't scheduled. Did something happen?
