The flames roared violently, engulfing the wreckage of the villa.
From the heart of the inferno, a black-and-red figure shot into the sky like a missile — two blades gleaming in his hands.
Onboard the fleeing armed aircraft, the pilot and team leader kept a close watch on the blaze below.
The moment they noticed the figure closing in, panic struck.
"S**t! Pull up! Pull up!" the team leader shouted.
The pilot immediately slammed the throttle forward.
The vehicle's vector engine roared to life, bright blue flames spewing from the thrusters as the craft shot upward at full speed.
From below, the figure's rapid ascent slowed — seemingly reaching its limit.
Relieved, the crew started to relax.
"Hah... he's not keeping up."
But in the very next second...
The impossible happened.
The figure suddenly kicked off the air, rocketing forward like a cannonball.
"W-What the hell!?"
In the blink of an eye, the figure was right on their tail.
"BOOM!"
With two flashes of steel — one black, one white — the craft's right engine exploded.
"Gotcha!" Alex growled, clinging to the vehicle's hull.
Taking advantage of the impact, Alex leapt onto the top of the floating car.
Before the crew could react, Alex drew his pistol, "Sleeper," and aimed at the second engine.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
The second engine erupted in flames.
The pilot, finally snapping out of his panic, grabbed the controls.
He banked hard, forcing the craft into a tactical roll.
Caught off guard, Alex was flung from the vehicle, tumbling violently toward the ground.
"Escape! Get out of here!" the team leader screamed, his face pale.
The remaining crew scrambled to stabilize the damaged craft.
They had never seen anything like this — a man with inhuman strength, surviving rockets and taking out engines with a blade and a pistol.
"Overclock the vector engine!" the pilot barked.
The remaining engines flared with intense blue flames, surging the craft forward at maximum speed.
In seconds, they had gained distance.
But Alex had already recovered.
"You think you can outrun me?" he muttered darkly.
Taking a deep breath, Alex shifted his stance — a defensive crouch — and let the Blacklight Virus gather at his feet.
Power surged through his body.
The air seemed to ripple around him.
"BOOM!"
With a deafening blast, Alex shot forward like a bullet from a cannon.
The concrete beneath him cracked and splintered from the force of his launch.
The air around him howled with a thunderous roar.
A sonic boom cloud erupted behind him, marking his break through the sound barrier.
Flesh and blood... moving at supersonic speed.
"Whoosh!"
Still accelerating, Alex pushed harder, activating his new [Air Sprint] ability.
A burst of power shot him forward again.
Then, spreading his limbs wide, Alex allowed the Blacklight Virus to pour from his body, forming a membrane-like wing structure.
In seconds, Alex was gliding through the sky like a predatory falcon.
The armed soldiers on the fleeing craft stared in horror as Alex rapidly closed the gap.
"What the hell... is he even human!?"
The vehicle's crew barely had time to react before a muffled thud echoed from the roof.
"He's on the roof!"
"Brace! I'm pulling another roll!" the pilot shouted.
But this time, Alex was ready.
Using the Blacklight Virus to anchor himself to the metal surface, he stayed firmly in place.
"BOOM!"
The final two engines were destroyed in a blur of steel and sparks.
With all propulsion lost, the floating vehicle spiraled downward and crashed into the earth.
The bloodbath that followed was inevitable.
Less than 30 seconds later, the battlefield was silent — a pile of corpses marking the aftermath.
Alex knelt beside the last survivor — the team leader.
In his final moments, Alex dug deep into the man's memories.
Moments Later...
"Unofficial orders? From... Candace Stevenson?"
Alex's expression twisted as he processed what he had just learned.
The entire attack had been orchestrated by Kang Tao — but not by Lisa Han.
Instead, it had been ordered by Candace Stevenson, the former director of Kang Tao's American branch.
Stevenson had secretly aligned with Militech, intending to betray Kang Tao by delivering Alex to their research division.
"This whole thing... was a setup?"
Alex's face darkened.
"I blamed Liana for nothing..." he muttered.
"Damn it... this just got complicated."
Meanwhile...
In the North Oak District, Shockwave swerved through the streets, dodging enemy fire.
Two more armed floating vehicles had been in pursuit, but thanks to Shockwave's powerful data-intrusion abilities, the enemy pilots had been incapacitated — forcing their craft to crash.
Now, only a squad of ground troops remained.
Inside the car, Liana anxiously tried to reconnect to the Holy Sword's operating system.
"Why isn't my car responding!?" she cried.
No matter how many commands she sent, the system refused to obey.
V, watching quietly, couldn't help but smirk.
"Relax, kid... it's not broken," she said.
Just then, Alex's message arrived on V's phone:
"This wasn't Liana's fault. Tell Shockwave to finish them off."
Relieved, V turned to Liana.
"Don't worry... everything's handled."
"Handled?!" Liana sniffled. "We're still being chased!"
V just smiled and patted Liana's head.
"Trust me... just sit back and enjoy the show."
