Chapter 77 - Nick Fury’s Call

"Ughh~ That feels so good."

The next day, Tohka got out of bed again — and thankfully, it was the weekend.

She didn't have to go to school, and even when she did, it was completely on her own terms — no one really controlled her.

"Hmm... I wonder how things from yesterday were resolved. Where the heck did all those giant lizards come from anyway?"

She turned on her computer and casually opened a few news websites.

All the headlines were about last night's incident. Apparently, the giant lizards were part of some underground gang in New York.

But upon reading this, Tohka completely lost interest.

But once she got to that part, Tohka lost all interest — it wasn't like they were targeting her specifically.

Honestly, if that big lizard hadn't tried to turn all of New York into a lizard den, she wouldn't have bothered at all.

I mean, last night she had to go through so much effort just to find a convenience store.

America — or more accurately, New York — was already chaotic, and recent events made it clear the world wasn't exactly peaceful these days.

So, most stores were closing early these days.

Yesterday, she only managed to find a convenience store in a neighborhood where white-collar workers lived, and she was able to grab some food to fill her stomach.

After all, that was still a relatively safe area where almost no gangs dared to extend their influence.

Even someone like Kingpin knew what he could and couldn't touch.

He knew that going against an entire social class would be the end of him.

"Ughh~ Breakfast, huh..."

She munched on bread and sipped milk — nutritious, sure, but she really craved a Chinese breakfast.

Like doufunao (tofu pudding), spicy soup, and such — things she hadn't seen at all in the U.S.

But she was too lazy to get up early and head to Chinatown to find them.

So instead, she just idly stare out the window at the street below.

The street was bustling with people — showing off the lively, vibrant side of New York.

"So boring... I wonder when Loki's gonna show up. Then I can finally go full Dynasty Warriors on him."

After finishing her meal, Tohka flopped onto her couch and started rolling around.

She couldn't help it—she had been fighting one battle after another lately, and to be honest, she actually enjoyed it. Now that she suddenly had nothing to do, it felt weird.

"Whatever, it's been a while since I gamed. Steam really is a blessing... especially with American internet speeds."

With zero hesitation, Tohka grabbed her laptop and started gaming — she'd downloaded a bunch at Tony's villa.

Using his insane internet speed, she had downloaded a mountain of games.

A lot of them were banned in her home country — gotta admit, America was pretty open-minded.

As for the age restrictions? She had JARVIS bypass all that.

That jerk Tony registered her as 17 years old — really treating her like an eternally 17-year-old girl, huh.

Besides, even though Spirits don't age, they do grow.

Take Kurumi Tokisaki — she's grown a lot in the past 30 years and even gave birth to Shido Itsuka.

(I recently read the latest DAL volume — I don't even want to rant about it.)

Originally, Tohka had planned to coast along until the Avengers arc.

But things rarely go the way she expected.

This world was just too big — someone was always stirring up trouble.

And wouldn't you know it — Nick Fury contacted her again.

"What is it now, Director Nick Fury? What kind of trouble is it this time? Just so you know, I'm taking a break today—I'm not accepting any missions."

As she opened the video call, she saw Fury's big dark face and lazily spoke while staring at him with her dead-fish eyes.

She'd already made up her mind — unless it was literally world-ending, she wasn't lifting a finger.

"Cough, cough, cough."

Nick Fury choked on his words before he could even begin.

After a few coughs, he continued, "So... Coulson mentioned you can use the Tesseract."

"And this world is still mostly peaceful — all this recent chaos is just a... special case."

Honestly, this time he really wasn't calling to make her fight — just to ask a few things.

That last bit was clearly just to calm her down.

But even he didn't sound very confident about it.

The world might be "peaceful," but America... well, Tohka wasn't in the mood to think too hard about it.

"Yeah, I can use it. But it hasn't even been a day — you already figured out what that thing does?"

Hearing it wasn't about fighting, Tohka let out a sigh of relief.

Gotta admit — compared to other isekai travelers, Tohka was a bit of a slacker.

At least others would negotiate with S.H.I.E.L.D...

But with Tohka? Nah. She couldn't be bothered to care.

She was bored anyway. With no girlfriends to hang out with, she was bound to get sick from loneliness. Might as well go visit her favorite characters.

"No, not yet. Our scientists haven't made much progress."

"But based on past data, this object seems to trigger spatial vibrations."

"Our team's working on a device — once it's ready, we'd like you to try triggering the Tesseract again like before."

Alright, so Nick Fury still had faith in her.

No — more accurately, he believed Tohka didn't have any malicious intent.

Whether she caused trouble unintentionally was another matter.

"Hmm, you sure?"

"You realize that thing's got massive power, right?"

"You're not worried my power might react badly with it and cause... something?"

"And when? I'm free right now anyway."

"As for where — just tell me. As long as it's in the U.S., I can be there in no time."

Hearing this, Tohka got a little curious — so she could use that, Infinity Stone.

But last time was too rushed — she hadn't fully activated it and got spooked by the blinding light, instinctively tossing it away.

The result? Other than blinding everyone temporarily — nothing else happened.

"You don't have to worry about that — we'll be taking every safety precaution."

"But it's not time yet."

"We're still setting up equipment and evaluating the device. Once it's done, we'll let you know."

"Just giving you a heads-up — we'll need to collect some important data at that time."

Nick Fury explained in response to Tohka's concerns.

It had only been half a day since the last incident — they still needed time to study it.

So, for now, there was no way they'd bring Tohka in just yet.

"Alright then, just let me know when it's time. As long as I'm free, I'll be there."
