The afternoon had been quieter than usual. I was lost in my own thoughts, trying to organize a day that seemed to drag on like a punishment.

I spent some time going over business papers, but my mind wandered easily.

Three weeks. It had been three weeks since Salin left. And nothing. Not a call. Not a message.

The weight of his absence filled every corner of this house, every space I tried to fill with something meaningless. The clock in the corner of the room seemed to mock me, ticking away every second of my incompetence in distracting myself.

I received a message about my aunt's event. It wasn't something I wanted to attend. Not even close. But I knew I couldn't afford another misstep.
