Chapter 43 - Thermokinetic Baptism

It hadn't been long since Noah entered the special training and began his mission, yet the corpses of red orcs were already piling up—and with each kill, Noah grew stronger.

"This is getting exhausting. I've been trying to conserve energy, but they keep coming in greater numbers each time. Sooner or later, I'll be overwhelmed and surrounded," Noah thought to himself while scanning the area cautiously. He was drenched in sweat and fatigue, but still had fight left in him.

Noah was surrounded by about 30 red orcs. They had noticed his exhaustion and began backing off, sending in one orc at a time to slowly drain his energy until he collapsed. It was a smart strategy—for beasts like red orcs. But Noah had no intention of sitting idly by.

One orc charged at him, wielding a massive cleaver-like sword. Noah leapt back, dodging the strike, only to be ambushed from behind by another orc throwing a punch. He narrowly avoided it, and the attacker accidentally hit another orc who had replaced Noah's spot. Suddenly, Noah appeared among their ranks, prompting chaos. As they swung their weapons, he vanished and reappeared in the sky, crashing down and stomping one orc's face into the ground. He immediately leapt onto another orc, locking his legs around its neck and choking it until it collapsed. Backing off, he found himself encircled once again.

"This is getting harder. I just need to adapt... but that's tough. I can't force my body past its limits. The easiest solution is to exit, rest well, and reenter. That would make wiping them out much easier. But… I don't want to run. Not again. I've changed… I just need... to adapt," he thought, eyes darkening. His heartbeat raced, adrenaline surging, and before he could think further, he launched himself at the orcs.

An orc in the front row swung a weapon—Noah evaded and darted to the back lines, punching through an orc's skull. Before the body dropped, he used its shoulder as a springboard to jump away just as another orc swung a giant axe, slicing through the dead orc's body. Grabbing onto an orc's back, Noah dug his fingers in to stay attached. The orc panicked, throwing its weapon and falling backward in an attempt to crush Noah—but Noah had already moved. He seized the discarded axe and hurled it, so hard it pierced an orc's skull and stuck. Noah rushed forward, retrieved the axe, and swung it in a deadly arc, slaying multiple surrounding orcs. The battlefield was now soaked in blood.

Despite feeling more drained with every step, Noah continued the slaughter relentlessly.

[Mission: Kill Orcs – 100/76 (Incomplete)]

More red orcs appeared in the distance and joined the remaining group. Noah gripped the heavy axe tightly—it wasn't easy to swing or throw, especially with no prior weapon experience. He noticed an orc in the back holding a different weapon—a red banner marked with a crude white orc head symbol. When the orc waved it, a red field of influence the size of Noah's "Influence Field" spread out. The orcs' behavior shifted; their eyes turned red, they grew enraged, and their strength—especially their speed—surged.

Half the group rushed Noah. They moved so fast he shouldn't have been able to follow them—but thanks to his "Foresight" skill, he could predict the next three moves. One unarmed orc launched a flurry of blows, but Noah dodged with surgical precision. It consumed his focus but conserved energy.

Another orc came from behind, clasped its fists, and tried to smash Noah. Noah swapped places with the orc in front of him, causing the punch to kill the attacker's ally instead. As the orc looked up in horror, Noah punched him, sending him flying—undoubtedly dead.

Without hesitation, Noah teleported behind the orc with the banner by switching places with a nearby orc. That orc, acting as a shield, took the hit instead—Noah shattered his jaw and drove his fingers into the orc's skull before smashing it with his knee. He then leapt back by launching the corpse into its allies and caught his balance. Scooping up some dirt, he shaped it into a compact ball and threw it into the sky with all his might—it vanished from view.

Charging again, he leapt toward the orc with the banner. One orc grabbed his leg mid-air—Noah spun his entire body to break free, but the orc's claws cut his leg. Ignoring the pain, Noah kicked the orc off-balance, then punched him so hard his fist burst through the creature's body, splattering blood everywhere.

Noah's eyes darkened further. Then—he vanished.

In his place: the dirt ball.

The remaining orcs were stunned, then heard a sharp, whistling sound—like metal boiling. They looked up and saw Noah plummeting at terrifying speed.

Due to how "Influence Field" worked, teleporting to the dirt ball's location preserved the momentum. Since he had thrown it with immense force, the ball had reached terminal velocity—and Noah inherited that speed when he swapped with it. Based on gravity's law, Noah was now falling faster than the speed of sound.

He struck the banner-wielding orc like a meteor.

Upon impact, everything below exploded in a blast of dust and debris. When the dust settled, all that remained was a massive crater—and scattered pieces of red orcs: limbs, brains, and intestines. In the center stood Noah, alone, drenched in blood. His eyes and nose were bleeding, he coughed up blood, and several ribs were broken. But the orc he'd landed on? Not even a trace remained.

"…I won…" Noah whispered, his voice shaky but filled with satisfaction. He collapsed on his back, nearly dead. It was a miracle he survived at all—humans aren't supposed to endure such falls, especially without armor.

[Would you like to claim your rewards?]

…No answer. Noah had lost the ability to speak. A human in such condition would usually pass out—but Noah remained painfully conscious, unable to even close his eyes. His vision blurred, thoughts faded—he couldn't move, think, or respond.

[Mental and Physical Condition Restored]

A green aura surrounded Noah, healing him rapidly. In an instant, his sight returned, and all wounds vanished. It was like he had never been hurt.

Wobbling a little, Noah stood up, brushed the dust from his clothes, and straightened his back with a deep breath.

"That was terrifying. Why did I have to fall from that height?! What if I died mid-air from shock and hit the ground dead—that'd be so embarrassing. Damn it!" he muttered, more concerned about his dignity than his near-death.
