Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The S.S. Anne

"All right, I'm heading out. See you tomorrow." Silas tossed out the words and took off.

Brock didn't even bat an eye, used to Silas's behavior, and continued doing his own thing.

As Silas walked home, he reflected on the favor Brock had asked him to do today.

It wasn't hard to understand. Brock had a bunch of younger siblings to take care of and didn't trust outsiders to look after them. Meanwhile, Pewter Gym's official Leader was always busy and simply couldn't make time for the tournament.

On top of that, since Silas wasn't yet 17 and was even stronger than Brock, it was only natural for him to take his place.

After so many battles, Brock had probably realized by now that Silas's Combusken wasn't just Elite-level—it had Champion potential. But that wasn't a big deal.

Silas wasn't worried about the League or any official factions. They still had to follow the rules, after all.

As he had thought before, as long as he didn't reveal Zero, even if Combusken's Champion-level potential was exposed, it wouldn't be too dangerous.

After all, Pewter Gym had already invested in his talent. They wouldn't be the kind of people to steal a Pokémon from their own recruit.

Other factions wouldn't want to risk offending Pewter Gym over a Pokémon with uncertain Champion potential either.

Even if someone did try to steal Combusken in secret, once they got caught, they would have to return it and apologize to Pewter Gym. The risk wasn't worth it.

The real threat came from poaching teams and criminals. If they targeted him, it wouldn't just be about losing Combusken it could cost him his life.

This tournament was mostly internal, so it didn't matter. But in other competitions, he would have to be more careful.

Silas glanced at the contestant information Brock had sent over, giving it a quick scan.

"So, this is basically a kids' competition, huh?"

Flipping through the profiles, he counted the 32 participants, including himself.

Seventeen of them had just turned 16 recently. Their starter Pokémon were still at the Standard rank, let alone their second Pokémon.

Eight more were slightly older, with two Standard-rank Pokémon each.

Another three had starter Pokémon that had broken into the Advance rank.

The last three, including himself, were Trainers backed by Gym investments. They were all slightly over 17 years old.

"So, my real competition is just those three, then."

"So those three will be my real competition." Staring at their familiar faces, Silas fell into deep thought.

Oh well. He'd deal with it when the time came. Even if he didn't win, second place still came with a two-million Pokédollar prize. Shaking his head, he pushed aside his unnecessary thoughts.

After all, this was just a favor for a friend.

Ten Days Later – 4:00 PM

Vermilion City, located at the southern coast of Kanto, was a major international port city where even luxury cruise ships regularly docked.

The city was divided into two main areas: the central district and the harbor district.

The harbor district was always bustling, with countless cargo ships and cruise liners arriving and departing daily, driving the city's economy forward.

The Tidal ferry ran back and forth between Olivine City in Johto and Vermilion Port. Ten Rapidash-Class ferries sailed from Vermilion Port to the Sevii Islands.

But the most famous of all was the S.S. Anne, a world-traveling luxury cruise liner that returned to Vermilion City only once a year.

After a long journey, Silas finally arrived at the Vermilion City harbor.

The moment he set foot there, his eyes locked onto the massive luxury cruise ship in the distance.

Compared to the other vessels, the S.S. Anne stood out, overwhelmingly large and extravagant.

Its pristine white exterior was adorned with golden embellishments, and the multiple stacked decks made it an awe-inspiring sight.

As he approached, the ship looked even more magnificent. Silas pulled out his ticket and handed it to the security guard for inspection.

The guard scanned it with a device and respectfully gestured for Silas to board.

Nearby, the watching crowd gazed at Silas with envy.

They weren't allowed on the S.S. Anne.

Silas casually made his way up the boarding ramp. As soon as he stepped into the ship's grand interior, a well-dressed attendant approached him.

"Mr. Silas Alaric, welcome aboard. Your ticket grants you access to one of our VIP rooms, located on the fourth deck with the best scenic view.

Would you like me to give you a tour of the S.S. Anne?"

"Just a brief introduction will do." Silas smiled slightly.

"Of course. It would be my pleasure." The attendant bowed respectfully, then gestured forward.

"The S.S. Anne consists of six decks in total. The second deck holds standard rooms, while the fourth deck is reserved for VIP accommodations.

We are currently on the first deck, which features various entertainment facilities. From left to right, there is an arcade, a theater, a bar, a library, a gym, a hot spring bath, a game room, and a 24-hour buffet restaurant.

The outer deck houses an open swimming pool and a water park.

The third and fifth decks serve as battle arenas and training areas for Pokémon Trainers. However, they are only open from 9 AM to 6 PM. Outside of these hours, they are closed for maintenance and to ensure guests can rest without disturbances. We appreciate your understanding.

The sixth deck is a semi-private banquet hall, accessible only to VIP guests like yourself and a select number of standard guests. Banquets are held on the second and third nights of the voyage, and you will receive a formal invitation beforehand.

Each deck is equipped with its own set of basic facilities, and if you require any assistance, our staff is always available to help."

As they walked toward his room, the attendant provided a concise yet thorough explanation of the S.S. Anne's layout.

No doubt about it this was a luxury cruise in every sense. Every facility was top-tier.

Arriving at his room, the attendant bowed once more.

"This is your cabin. Simply scan your ID card to unlock the door. It is registered specifically to you.

If there is nothing else you need, I shall take my leave."

"Got it. Thanks a lot." Silas retrieved his ID card from his backpack, swiped it at the scanner, and stepped inside.

"I hope you enjoy your voyage aboard the S.S. Anne." The attendant bid him farewell and walked away to continue his duties.

Stepping into the room, Silas raised an eyebrow.

The first thing that caught his eye was the massive floor-to-ceiling window. Through it, he had a perfect view of the endless ocean and the golden hues of the setting sun.

"Man… this is the life."

Letting out a satisfied sigh, he tossed his backpack onto the bed and flopped onto the plush sofa.

Reaching for the mini-fridge beside him, he grabbed a chilled drink, popped it open, and took a sip.

Since it was included in the ticket price, there was no reason not to indulge.

"A limited-edition collector's can? Damn, rich people really do live in a different world." He examined the packaging. This particular drink was three times the price of the standard version.

The lifestyles of the wealthy were truly beyond comprehension.

As for the expensive wine also stocked in the room?

Silas had no interest. He was just a simple guy. Splurging on a fancy soft drink was already pushing it. Wine? That was too much.

In this world, fruit crops meant for human consumption were difficult to cultivate, making wine an extreme luxury. A single bottle could cost more than the average person's monthly salary.

"Nope. Can't just laze around like this."

After nearly ten minutes of lounging, Silas forced himself to sit up.

"First, a shower. That electric bike ride here left me sore all over. Maybe I should sell it and get a more comfortable one." Stretching his stiff muscles, he walked toward the bathroom.

Pushing open the door, he let out an impressed whistle.

"Wow… even their bathrooms are over the top."
