Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: The Death of Uchiha Obito

Chapter 99: The Death of Uchiha Obito

Jiraiya watched the scene before him unfold. The words spoken by Uchiha Douguang earlier echoed endlessly in his mind:

"The ones who believe your nonsense today will be doomed tomorrow."

"Itachi…"

Jiraiya didn't know how much responsibility he bore for Uchiha Itachi's death. But right now, Itachi was lying dead before his very eyes—and it had been less than a month since the boy began to believe in his "prophecy."

He turned his head, unable to watch Sasuke wail in grief over his brother's corpse. But the cries still lingered in his ears, like an accusation piercing into his soul.

With heavy steps, Jiraiya walked away from the battlefield, escorted by Uchiha Inaho and Uchiha Zaidou, heading toward the Police Department.

The battlefield fell into silence after Itachi's death.

But back in the Hokage's office, the atmosphere was anything but calm.

"You old bastard, Hiruzen Sarutobi!"

Uchiha Fugaku's eyes blazed red as he landed a heavy punch on the Third Hokage's face.

Although he had seen glimpses of this outcome through his Mangekyō Sharingan, when his son's death truly arrived—it was unbearable.

This was his pride. His firstborn.

"Fugaku, calm down!" The other captains of the Police Department hurried to restrain him.

Despite being held back by six men, Fugaku kept cursing loudly.

Hiruzen, who took Fugaku's punch head-on, collapsed into his chair. He said nothing. Silently, he stared into the crystal ball showing the battlefield.

When Fugaku's fury was spent, he too sank into a chair, blankly gazing at Hiruzen.

"If I hadn't taken Itachi to the battlefield when he was four… If I hadn't let him graduate early, or join the ANBU… would any of this have happened?"

"Maybe," Hiruzen replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

His mind too was flooded with memories.

Since taking the Third Hokage's position after Tobirama, he had led the village through two Great Ninja Wars. But the truth remained: under his leadership, Konoha had grown weaker.

White Fang, Orochimaru, Tsunade, Minato, Hizashi—and now, Itachi.

Each of them had fallen while he hesitated, while he failed to act.

Once hailed as the "Ninja Hero," what was he now?

He had to ask himself—was he still worthy of being called a shinobi?

Elsewhere, in the Forest of Death—

Uchiha Douguang had lured Uchiha Obito into battle.

He raised both hands in a rapid series of seals, and his Susanoo hurled two lightning-forged swords skyward. As they ascended, the blades transformed into a storm cloud, casting a thundering net over the entire area.

In his incorporeal state, Obito looked up at the sky filled with thunder and chuckled.

"You're stronger than I expected, boy."

"Now that it's just the two of us, stop hiding behind tricks. Cowards like you aren't worthy of the battlefield."

Furious, Obito slapped his hands together. From the ground, dozens of wooden stakes erupted, forming a giant wooden avatar—almost matching the size of Douguang's Susanoo.

"The First Hokage's technique, huh?" Douguang laughed coldly. "You've got a lot of stolen tricks, but can you really control the power of a god?"

With a roar, Obito's wooden titan threw the first punch. Douguang's Susanoo met it head-on, locking fists. The sheer force of their clash shattered the trees in a hundred-meter radius.

Back on the sidelines, Kakashi and the others could only watch, unable to approach such overwhelming power.

Within the Susanoo, Douguang laughed maniacally.

"Since the war ended, I haven't gone all out like this. Try not to die too quickly, coward!"

Obito gritted his teeth. His wooden titan was already being overwhelmed. He formed seals again.

"Fire Style: Storm Flare Tornado!"

His Mangekyō twisted the space before him into a spiral storm, then spewed fire into it. The flaming tornado roared toward Douguang.

"Water Style: Water Wall!"

Douguang calmly raised a barrier of water that sizzled and evaporated under the flames.

Then, with a dragon's roar—

"Sage Art: Lightning Style - Azure Dragon!"

A massive dragon of lightning surged forth, devouring the firestorm. Obito phased through it just in time.

The explosion shook the earth. The lightning illuminated the entire village. Obito's wooden titan was obliterated.

"Hahaha! Weaklings like you dare call themselves Madara?"

Douguang summoned a barrage of thunder-infused Yasaka Magatama.

The orbs detonated around Obito's intangible body.

"You can't hurt me," Obito mocked.

"Oh, I can fix that." Douguang smirked.

He continued charging lightning into the clouds.

"Sage Art: Lightning Style - Kirin!"

The heavens screamed. A monstrous lightning beast descended, smashing into the ground and chasing Obito like divine wrath.

Obito didn't dare stop phasing.

From afar, even Black Zetsu, hidden underground, had to admit—

This man fought more like Madara than Obito ever had.

If Obito had danced in flames, Douguang roared amidst thunder.

"How long can you keep up that coward's trick, hmm?!" Douguang taunted.

"I could ask the same of your chakra." Obito sneered.

"Trying to stall me now?" Douguang laughed. "I bet you don't have the guts to keep going. Let's see whose power runs out first—yours or mine!"

Just then, White Zetsu whispered urgently:

"Obito, Black Zetsu says we need to retreat."

"...Damn it."

As Obito began to warp space to escape, Douguang sneered.

"Running again, are we? You did the same thing back when Rin died… right, Obito?"

Obito froze.

Douguang continued, smirking:

"I sensed matching chakra in Kakashi's eye. One left eye, one right eye—add in your warped body, and even if it sounds impossible, the truth becomes obvious."

"You survived the Third War, didn't return, and instead caused the Nine-Tails attack. All because you were too weak to protect Rin. You're pathetic."

"SHUT UP!" Obito screamed, exposing his voice.

Douguang's laughter echoed like thunder.

"You dare speak her name!" Obito raged, losing all composure.

He charged forward, fully corporeal, fueled by fury.

Exactly what Douguang was waiting for.

He activated his ultimate visual technique—Yasogami no Magatama, his "Eight Tenfold Punishment."

A spectral slash cut across Obito's face, disrupting his chakra network.

His regeneration from Hashirama cells couldn't stop it.

Obito screamed in horror as his body began to petrify.

He activated Izanagi, sacrificing his eye to rewrite fate and escape into Kamui space.

But even there, he found no salvation.

Douguang appeared.

"How—"

Before he could finish, Douguang extracted his Mangekyō. Obito's body crumbled to dust.

His final thought:

'Why didn't Izanagi work?'

Perhaps, if he meets Danzo in the Pure Land, he might find an answer.
