Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The First Battle on Skypiea

"One Sword Style — Storm!"

Modi attacked at the same time the Shandians opened fire. He swung his sword with all his might, unleashing a powerful gust of wind that swept away the incoming bullets, cannonballs, and even several of the Shandians.

"High-Pressure Jet!" Riki released a stream of high-pressure air from his body, also blowing away many of the bullets and cannonballs.

Moria's shadow transformed into shadow bats, colliding with and exploding the cannonballs.

The bullets and cannonballs exploded above the pirate ship, and several Shandians fell into the Sky Sea. It was uncertain whether they would survive.

"Bastards!"

The heavily tattooed, muscular Shandian's eyes narrowed, and he ground out two words between his teeth. His Waver erupted with a blast of wind, propelling him onto the deck with incredible speed. He wielded a large spear, which quickly turned red-hot, becoming scorching and starting to smoke.

"Burning Spear!"

The muscular Shandian thrust his spear at Bege. Modi leaped forward, already rushing out. His long sword was drawn in mid-air, arcing through the air. With a loud clang, Modi blocked the Shandian's burning spear.

However, Modi struggled to hold his ground, pushed back more than ten steps by the Shandian's momentum before stabilizing himself. His arms trembled, barely able to withstand the force.

"I'll help you!" Moria ran over. The shadow bat fragments from the explosions in the air quickly coalesced, forming a Shadow Spear that shot towards the muscular Shandian.

The muscular Shandian abruptly raised his hand, blocking the Shadow Spear with a single hand, completely unharmed.

"That's impossible!" Moria's eyes widened in disbelief. His Shadow Spear was powerful enough to pierce steel; even Bege wouldn't dare to take it head-on, even with Armament Haki.

Bege's brow furrowed, and he immediately shouted, "Moria, be careful! That's an Impact Dial!"

The muscular Shandian raised his hand, aiming at Moria, and instantly released a Shadow Spear, shooting it towards Moria with astonishing speed.

Moria was terrified and instantly dodged the Shadow Spear.

"An Impact Dial that can absorb impact..." Moria thought, finding it incredible.

The muscular Shandian quickly flipped his hand, turning his palm away and aiming the back of his hand at Modi's face.

Modi sensed an intense danger and immediately retreated, using Soru to quickly withdraw. At the same time, the back of the Shandian's hand released a powerful shockwave, blasting a large hole in the deck.

Modi reappeared, gazing at the hole in the deck, cold sweat dripping down his forehead. If he had been hit by that impact, he would have been seriously injured, if not killed.

Bege frowned at the muscular Shandian, who was far stronger than his companions.

"I'll handle this guy. You deal with the others."

Modi's expression was solemn. He sheathed his long sword, refusing Moria's help.

"Be careful," Moria said, sensing Modi's resolve. He nodded and rushed towards the other Shandians.

Modi inhaled a large amount of air, and then his eyes suddenly sharpened.

The muscular Shandian stomped on the deck, his Waver releasing a blast of wind, propelling him towards Modi.

Clang!

His long sword was drawn with a flash. In the moonlight, the blade gleamed, emitting a dazzling, cold light.

Sword and spear collided, the blade shimmering brilliantly, even sparking flames.

"Now that I've adapted to the thin air, I can slowly unleash my strength," Modi mused internally. This time, his block was firm.

The muscular Shandian tried to use the Impact Dial again, but Modi, having learned his lesson, swiftly evaded.

Then, in the next instant, he quickly sheathed his sword, leaped back, stomped on the ground, and then charged towards the muscular Shandian with astonishing speed, leaving behind a small swirling vortex of wind.

"One Sword Style: Iai — Ultimate Wind Slash!"

Modi's figure vanished in an instant, reappearing behind the muscular Shandian. Immediately, a half-meter-long gash appeared on the left side of the Shandian's chest, blood gushing out.

The muscular Shandian groaned in pain. He used his spear to support his body, the scorching spear burning the deck.

" Calsedon..."

The other Shandians saw the muscular Shandian's injury, their expressions changing drastically. They rushed towards him, but they were blocked by Moria and the others, knocked to the ground one by one.

The muscular Shandian, named Calsedon, gritted his teeth, refusing to fall. He grabbed the huge bazooka on his back and aimed it directly at Bege. He had realized that Bege held a very high position on this ship; from the beginning of the fight, no one had allowed the Shandians to get near him. Therefore, he wanted to kill Bege directly.

"Burn Bazooka!" the muscular Shandian roared, pulling the trigger. A stream of blue-white flames erupted.

Bege's expression tightened. He knew that this Burn Bazooka was a powerful weapon that mixed gas and could incinerate opponents to ashes. He couldn't underestimate it.

He placed his hand on his sword hilt, but in the next moment, a bulky figure blocked his path – it was Riki.

Riki's hands released high-pressure air streams that collided with the blue-white flames.

"Go to the sky."

Riki took a step forward, tilting his hands slightly downwards. The upward-angled high-pressure air streams carried the blue-white flames into the sky, where they exploded. Large patches of blue-white flames burst open in the air like fireworks.

Riki staggered slightly, gasping for breath.

The muscular Shandian roared in frustration, pulling on the mechanism of the bazooka, seemingly reloading. But at that moment, a cold voice sounded behind him.

"Move again, and your head will fly off first."

Modi stood behind him, his long sword resting on Calsedon's neck. The sharp blade had cut into his skin, drawing a trickle of blood.

The muscular Shandian's body stiffened. He looked at the deck, seeing that his fellow Shandians had all been subdued.

The crew members tied up all the Shandians. Bege stood before the muscular Shandian, saying calmly, "You're Calsedon, right? Don't worry, I won't kill you."

Calsedon's face was also covered in tattoos, making him look very fierce. He glared at Bege. "What are you Blue Sea people doing in Skypiea?"

"We're here to end the four-hundred-year war on Skypiea."

"For four hundred years, you've been fighting for Upper Yard and Skypiea. It's time to end it," Bege said.

"End the war? Just you?" Calsedon sneered.

"That's right, just us," Bege replied with a confident smile. Modi, Moria, Riki, and the others stood proudly behind him. Calsedon's expression tightened, and he remained silent for a moment.

"I don't believe you'd end the war between us and the Skypieans for no reason," Calsedon said.

"Of course, it's for Skypiea. I will become the God of Skypiea. Skypiea will become my territory," Bege declared openly, revealing his ambition.

"Impossible! Upper Yard belongs only to the Shandians!" Calsedon glared at Bege, roaring in anger. The other Shandians were similarly filled with resentment and fury.
