Chapter 4 - Perfect position

It was Marco who broke the silence.

"I feel kind of suspicious about his silence. Isn't he supposed to be here today? The first class is over, but he still hasn't shown up. The teacher mentioned that he's missing. I wonder if something's wrong," Marco said, looking worried.

"I don't think so. We left him in an unknown world, so it will take him some time to find his way back. I hope he's able to find his homeland," Aizis replied pretty carelessly.

"You erased his memories, right?" Marco asked, a bit suspicious.

"Yes, I did. And I also erased his mana-level detection abilities," Aizis answered with a bit of confidence.

"But what are you planning to do about the higher-ups he mentioned, Raizel?" Aizis asked, directing to Raizel.

"I'll think about that myself. For now, just forget about it. I want to wait until they make a move. Perhaps it will work in our favor," Raizel replied.

"Yes, I suggest we wait and see what these so-called higher-ups will do. If he's working as a spy, then his sudden disappearance will force them to try to figure out what really happened," Aizis said.

"And besides that, you know we're going to meet someone familiar soon enough," Aizis added with a mysterious smile.

"If the higher-ups exist, I believe they'll make a move soon. But I believe that if they don't find out about Raizel's endless mana, they won't take it too seriously. It will be a prime opportunity for us," Marco said with a serious expression.

"I believe that elder was stupid and reckless. What kind of idiot jumps into a fight with no hope of winning? I'm just surprised he wanted to fight someone who could defeat him with a single hit without even moving," Marco said curiously.

"It wasn't his fault at all. He simply fell into Raizel's trap," Aizis replied.

"What?" Marco asked, confused.

"He never managed to sense the immeasurable amount of energy Raizel was holding. He could only sense a certain amount of magic power that was completely identical to his own. Sensing someone with the same level of power as himself caused him mental trauma. No one else in the world possesses the same amount of magic power. However, that wasn't a good enough reason for him to fight Raizel.'' Aizis said calmly.

The real reason Aizes wanted to eliminate Raizel was that he feared that the equal amount of magic power Raizel possessed might one day lead to his own destruction. This fear ultimately led to his downfall. He wanted to kill Raizel, convinced he could outsmart him in battle. But his magic power was far weaker than even mine. When I attacked him with a lightning blast, I simply increased my mana presence and overwhelmed him with my lightning spell. I anticipated his thoughts and movements, and Raizel was the one who planned everything after sensing the vast amount of magic power Raizel held. He only saw the surface and aimed to destroy Raizel, but that was a fatal mistake," Aizis explained.

"As I thought, you guys had a plan from the very beginning. Even though I was surprised when I first saw his hostility toward us in the other world, it seems you two were well-prepared for the situation," Marco replied with a long sigh.

"Hmm, but something doesn't feel right. Why would a spy from their so-called higher world be here? Is there any particular reason for that?" Aizis asked curiously.

"Perhaps he's here to take over the world. Maybe the higher-ups sensed something that will become a problem for them in the future, and they sent a spy here to deal with it," Raizel replied.

"Could that person be someone very close to me, Raizel?" Aizis asked.

"I can't answer that," Raizel replied, totally refused to say anything else.

"This is so boring. These classes are boring for me," Marco suddenly said aloud.

"I want to be a magic elder like them and skip these stupid classes," he added, there was a trace of tireness in his voice.

"You know, you're already strong enough to destroy an army of dragons from the higher world," Aizis said with a mysterious smile, his tone was gentle.

"But I still have to finish all the educational tasks. Being part of one of the strongest families in the realm, I've been an expert in magic since a young age. The higher families always keep their magic teaching techniques a secret. Because of fewer opportunities, lower families get left behind. When it comes to the academy, they run things just like commoner families. That's why it's always boring and outdated for us. The higher families keep improving their magic techniques and inventing new types of spells, while the academy still uses the same outdated methods, leaving every commoner family far behind," Marco said, sounding disappointed.

"It's necessary for things to be like that. Higher-tier education and culture are not something commoners can handle or deserve. If you randomly pick a child from the streets and try to educate them in a higher-class style, they simply can't adapt to that level of education. However, what's happening here isn't right. What they're doing is taking away even the basic rights commoners deserve. They're treating commoners like trash. I've seen this cruelty since my childhood—the strong always eliminate the weak in a brutal way. The higher-ups will learn in their own privileged way, while commoners will learn in their own rightful and proper way. But if you ask how a commoner could become a ruler or king, the answer is that they'll ascend to higher classes step by step. Nothing in this world happens instantly. Everyone finds success in a way that they deserve," Aizis replied.

"It's just the way the world works. I don't think anyone can change it. The world will keep running, and everyone will stick to their own orders. No one is willing to give up their happiness for others. Everyone wants everything for themselves, whether they're commoners or nobles. Commoners want to rise to a higher position, and when it comes to nobles, they want to go even higher. They want it so badly. The selfishness of mortals is what causes endless wars and destruction. Whether weak or strong, everyone is selfish, and no one is satisfied with their position. No one wants to stop—they want to ascend, to keep going higher. Nature itself isn't something mortals are born with; it's the art of their surroundings, the art of mortals. It's the art that covers their hearts and creates a fake, artificial personality over their true selves. No matter what, we can never skip that layout. We can never truly find ourselves. We can never be someone without the selfish art of mortals," Raizel said, deep in thought.

It had always been his one and only thought in life, the only thing he had found for himself. It was his first thought, his first will. Throughout his life, as a weapon of creation, he had never had his own thoughts, never had his own will—until someone helped him realize it.

Who was it? Raizel couldn't remember the person from that day—the day he lost that person from his life. The person had been completely erased from his memory. Raizel still struggled to recall that person, still trying to recover the missing memories of the one with that smile on their face—the very first ally Raizel ever had.

Just then, Aizis broke his thoughts.

"Are you okay, Raizel?" Aizis asked calmly.

"Yes, I'm fine."

"I heard there's an upcoming event at the academy. It's a battle between magic academies. We'll probably see some of the strongest students around," Aizis continued.

"Yeah, I heard about that. It's some sort of magic-tier upgrading event. If you perform well, you'll be chosen by a high-class magic family. They'll help you improve your spells and techniques. I don't really need that, but I'll join anyway just to test my level," Marco added.

"I believe the teacher will explain everything," Aizis replied.

As soon as Aizis finished speaking, the teacher entered the classroom.

"Good morning, my dear students. I would like to welcome everyone to the classroom," the teacher said in a gentle voice.

"I'd like to inform you all that the Demonic Level Upgrading Event will begin tomorrow. It's an event where you'll have the chance to show your best abilities and earn the honor of becoming a student of one of the largest families in the realm," the teacher added.

A student raised her hand. She had long white hair and was dressed differently from the other students. She wore the same attire as the higher noble students, a long white-blue gown. Her face was innocent and always smiling, and she appeared no older than 18.

"I believe you should explain the details to the students," she said with a gentle smile.

"Of course, Ms. Maria. To explain everything about the event, we have Mr. Reis here. He will be the one to go over all the details," the teacher replied.
