The Great Toad Sage sat upon his stone chair, his half-open eyes seemingly piercing through the fabric of time and space.
"In my dream, I saw it—the future, altered entirely. Though that child still appears, the one who will bring about a world-changing upheaval... is no longer him.
In the days to come... this person will stir up storms, destroying everything in their path. They will overthrow the Five Great Shinobi Villages, topple the Five Great Nations, and turn the entire shinobi world upside down!"
The cryptic words of the Great Toad Sage sent shivers down the spines of everyone present.
Especially Jiraiya. Upon hearing phrases like "overthrowing the Five Great Shinobi Villages," "toppling the Five Great Nations," and "destroying everything in their path," his mind immediately conjured a name.
Unable to contain himself, he urgently asked the Great Toad Sage:
"Great Toad Sage! Who is this person who will bring such calamity!?"
The Great Toad Sage shook his head, a look of helplessness on his face.
"My dreams have been fragmented, so I do not know who this person is. But one thing is certain—this individual's power surpasses all others. I personally witnessed the Five Kage fall before them, one after another!"
Hearing that this person's strength surpassed everyone else, Jiraiya's thoughts immediately turned to the Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki, who had already fallen to this person, and the Third Kazekage, who had died at their hands. His suspicions grew stronger.
At this moment, the Great Toad Sage revealed another crucial detail:
"Oh... yes, I remember now. This person has a pair of peculiar eyes..."
Gulping audibly, Jiraiya nervously asked:
"Great Toad Sage, are this person's eyes... red!?"
"Eh? Red? No, they're not. I remember them being purple."
"Purple!?"
Jiraiya was utterly shocked. Could he have been mistaken? If this person wasn't Uchiha Madara, then who were they? After all, Madara's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan was red—what could these purple eyes possibly mean?
But how could Jiraiya know that Madara possessed the Rinnegan?
When they had encountered Madara during his use of the Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence technique, he had indeed been using the Rinnegan. However, since Madara had been suspended high in the air at a considerable distance from them, Jiraiya hadn't been able to clearly see his eyes. He had instinctively assumed they were an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
As for these mysterious purple eyes, Jiraiya was completely baffled. Standing there scratching his head, he couldn't make heads or tails of it.
Seeing Jiraiya's troubled expression, Shima attempted to console him:
"Little Jiraiya, there's no need to fret over things that haven't happened yet. That will only add unnecessary worry. The Great Toad Sage's prophecy is a warning for you. Simply remain vigilant in the future!"
Jiraiya thought about it and realized she was right. But knowing that such a massive disaster loomed ahead, how could he possibly stay calm? Eagerly, he pressed the Great Toad Sage further:
"Great Toad Sage, what should we do in the face of this calamity that threatens the entire shinobi world?"
The Great Toad Sage lifted his eyelids slightly and glanced at Jiraiya with an enigmatic tone:
"Little Jiraiya, when did I ever say this was a calamity for the entire shinobi world?"
"Huh? Overthrowing the Five Great Shinobi Villages and the Five Great Nations isn't a calamity for the entire shinobi world!?"
"Little Jiraiya, is the loss of the Five Great Shinobi Villages and the Five Great Nations truly a calamity?"
"Wha—!?"
Jiraiya's mouth hung open as he was completely stupefied by the Great Toad Sage's words.
Looking at Jiraiya's bewildered expression, the Great Toad Sage sighed deeply, his voice taking on the tone of an ancient sage offering wisdom:
"Little Jiraiya... you must understand that not everything in this world is black and white. What seems good may actually be bad, and what seems bad may turn out to be good. In the future... while this will undoubtedly be a calamity for the Five Great Shinobi Villages and the Five Great Nations, for the world at large, it may not be. From a certain perspective, this could very well be an act of breaking before building!"
"Breaking before building!?"
With one eye wide and the other squinted, Jiraiya fell into a state of utter confusion:
"Breaking before building? What is there to break in the world? Hmm... I don't understand. But, Great Toad Sage, regardless of the details, we're definitely heading toward a period of great upheaval, right!?"
The Great Toad Sage said nothing, merely nodding.
"So, Great Toad Sage, what should we do next? Should I continue searching for that boy and take him as my disciple!?"
"Hmm... Little Jiraiya, do whatever your heart desires. History and the future require your participation. However, I'll give you one piece of advice: in the days to come, you will face an incredibly difficult choice. When that time comes, your mind must remain clear. You must be willing to pick things up, but more importantly, you must also be willing to let them go...
That's all I have to say for now. Dreaming of so much of the future... I'm rather tired."
With those cryptic words, the Great Toad Sage drifted off to sleep.
Throughout the entire exchange, Jiraiya had been both tense and utterly confused. He barely understood the Great Toad Sage's words. Had someone else from Konoha been present, they might have been able to piece together three or four parts of the puzzle. But alas, it was Jiraiya—a man known for his somewhat dimwitted nature—and now trouble loomed.
Even after leaving Mount Myōboku and returning to Konoha to relay the Great Toad Sage's words to Hiruzen Sarutobi and others, Jiraiya failed to convey the message clearly.
Because Jiraiya had been so fixated on the individual who would overthrow the Five Great Shinobi Villages and the Five Great Nations, his retelling focused heavily on the chaos this person would bring. As for the Great Toad Sage's other, more benevolent warnings, Jiraiya inadvertently glossed over them.
This oversight indirectly contributed to a series of events that would unfold in the future.
As for Konoha, though they couldn't confirm whether the person with the purple eyes was Madara Uchiha, the prophecy nonetheless heightened their vigilance and caution.
