Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 Darkness, Despair, Absurdity, and Death

Chapter 22

As a time traveler, Regulus' perspective would not be like that of a plot character, only focused on his small circle.

Upon arriving in this wizarding world, Regulus was certain that there were other wizard stories, whether in fairy tales, historical myths, or perhaps existing in the same era as himself.

So, Regulus racked his brains, especially about movies featuring wizards.

Because the Harry Potter series, although it started as a book series, became famous mainly because of the movies.

Similarly, if a movie with wizards has a vague or similar background, it is very likely to truly exist.

However, finding examples became the biggest obstacle to verifying this hypothesis, but fortunately, Regulus had connections.

He clearly remembered the Auror who captured him, especially since he often frequented the Ministry of Magic afterward for family business issues and maintained close contact with that Auror team leader, Judy Fox.

Let's discuss a serious question: does flirting need a reason? Does it need a reason?

Regulus Black found the perfect excuse, and this reason could also showcase his identity and wealth.

So, not long after, that champagne-blonde hair and curvaceous figure straddled Regulus Black, and after some writhing, he expressed that having connections really made things easier.

In those movies involving wizards and magic, there is a story set in a remote little town in England called "Sleepy Hollow."

As a small town, using such an ominous name as "Sleepy Hollow" is quite peculiar, to say the least, reflecting the bizarre thinking in Europe and America.

However, once everything was replaced with a real-life background, Regulus Black understood why.

The entire town exuded a Gothic aura of darkness, despair, absurdity, and death, and pushed this magical quality to the extreme.

It could be said that the people in the town lived in hell, but humans are indeed a resilient species; as long as they can obtain the necessities of life, they can survive in any harsh environment.

Sleepy Hollow has long been associated with the legend of the "Headless Horseman." It is said that he was a bloodthirsty mercenary from the Black Forest, and after having his head severed by enemies, his restless spirit wandered in Sleepy Hollow, and on dark, windy nights, he would ride a swift horse, wielding a large sword to decapitate passersby.

Regulus Black once again distanced himself from Hogwarts, and since he had connections in the Ministry of Magic, he directly accessed the Floo Network through it and arrived at Sleepy Hollow in the fastest way.

In the town's church, amidst a burst of smoke and fire, Regulus Black arrived at his destination.

"Good morning, Father, could you do me a favor?"

As Regulus Black used "Scourgify" to clean off a bit of dust, he greeted the astonished priest.

"Ah! How did you get here? Who are you?"

Although the priest was not a wizard, nor a member of the church's witch-hunting faction, he still knew a bit about wizards. At this moment, the priest's mind was in turmoil; while it was somewhat exaggerated, few would remain indifferent to the legends becoming real.

"Obliviate!"

Regulus Black waved his wand, erasing the old priest's memories. The priest felt his mind becoming a bit muddled, as if he had forgotten something, but with a guest arriving, he should focus more on the visitor.

"Good morning, Father, could you do me a favor?"

Regulus Black kindly greeted again while observing the priest's demeanor; it seemed the magic was effective.

The magical aura flowing from this small town could grant some sensitive individuals abilities akin to those of wizards, meaning it could allow talented Muggles to gain wizard-like powers, at least within this town, it was undoubtedly useful.

These were a kind of unconventional wizards; they might not have the potential to become true wizards, but being born here, combined with their physical traits being the closest to wizards among ordinary Muggles, meant that when some magical rituals were taught to them, they could become specialized wizards.

And in this Sleepy Hollow town, the legacy should be the magic of the "Headless Horseman."

Due to his personal issues, Regulus Black was very interested in this type of dark magic, as only such dark magic could make him more perfect, rather than being a corpse that could be burned away in a fire.

"Hello, sir! What brings you here?"

The priest, intimidated by the noble aura, became very polite.

"I want to know the residence of the town sheriff and the mayor, or please tell me where I can find them?"

To understand a place, it's best to learn from the highest-ranking local officials, as they know the most details and hold the most respectable positions.

It's better to deal with local officials than to mingle with those local thugs who know everything but lack proper standing, even though Regulus' identity is still significant.

Naturally, the priest is also one of the highest authorities in the area.

With the recognition of these three—religious, administrative, and law enforcement—one can do anything they want in this small town.

Walking through the town with the priest, the town is not large, but it occupies the entire valley in terms of administrative division, surrounded by wetlands and marshes, as well as withered forests, appearing lifeless, resulting in a sparse population and very limited arable land.

In a capitalist society, even such barren land has its wealthy residents, and the town mayor is one of them.

Having found the mayor and the sheriff, the priest and Regulus Black, along with their party of four, arrived at the mayor's house.

Then, like men, the four began drinking, creating a very harmonious atmosphere. It's worth noting that while these three are the top figures in the area, being cooped up in such a ghostly place is not a comfortable situation. If they weren't so reluctant to part with their little power and wealth, they would have long been scheming to escape.

The four had a great time chatting, playing bridge late into the night, and Regulus even stayed at the mayor's house.

On the morning streets, there was still a hint of dampness, and the coolness of the stone slabs underfoot invigorated him, instantly sweeping away the lingering drowsiness from his mind.

The rising sun was warm, not overly glaring, casting a charming glow on the streets in the slightly cool morning, like a beautiful oil painting.

What a wonderful morning it was!

The three highest leaders of the town, who had played bridge all night, were now sitting in a row with blank expressions.

To outsiders, whether passing residents or the mayor's family, it seemed that these four had been playing all night long.

However, in reality, Regulus Black had placed a curse on the mayor's house from the very beginning.

A "Imperio" curse could easily manipulate these Muggles, and combined with the "Legilimency" spell, there was nothing Regulus Black did not know, even trivial matters they thought were unimportant were laid bare.

Fortunately, after a night of analysis, Regulus Black discovered that the town still had a legacy of the "Headless Horseman."

Near the cemetery in the Headless Valley lived a woman who worked as a cook in the mayor's house.

She had a pair of 10-year-old daughters, Kerenna and Katalin, each with silver-gray and snow-purple eyes, respectively.

No one would wander near the cemetery, as the atmosphere there was too unpleasant for ordinary people, but these two blonde little girls were full of energy and often lingered around the cemetery, which resulted in them having few friends.

Crossing the entire town, Regulus Black arrived near the cemetery at the deepest part of the valley.

"Show me the way!"

Thinking about the person or thing he wanted to find, this spell could provide some direction.

As the tip of his wand glowed brightly in a certain direction, after walking a while, Regulus Black finally saw the two strange-eyed little girls.

"Who are you?"

One of them asked innocently, while the other tightened her grip on a machete, looking somewhat wary.
