Alvis had just finished his daily quests, three ability points being his rewards. Just like last time, he would appoint them to agility, health, and intelligence. Going by how his last battle against Voyzez went, he figured that those three were the most important if he wanted to win.

Only two days left.

There were still a few things left he had to do to increase the chance of winning. It still itched him under the skin that he didn't get Gilsymbato on his side. His strength would have been an immense help. However, Alvis didn't plan with Gilsymbato to begin with, so his saying no didn't really change anything. His hopes were rather on Ms. Myth.

Alvis would use this day to approach her and convince her to go to the festival. Today they would also go to the Tekka Temple, so Alvis could finalize his plan together with Priest Zaini. He also had to work on his spells and keep on doing his research to fine-tune everything.

Today is gonna be busy.

——

"Hey, Ms. Myth," Alvis said, shouting from the distance.

He had spotted her walking around in the hotel on her own and he would use this chance.

"Alvis?" she said, turning around. "Oh, and Dane. What is the matter?"

Taking Dane with him was a part of his plan.

"I just wanted to ask when we would meet up on our last day?"

Ms. Myth frowned.

"For what did I hand out the activity sheets?" she said, shaking her head. "We will meet up at 19 o'clock here at the hotel. Before that, you all should have already cleaned your rooms and packed your stuff."

They just nodded as an answer.

"This means we can't stay all too long at the festival. Maybe not even an hour."

Come on, take the bait, Dane.

"Wait, what?!" Dane shouted, grabbing his head with horror in his eyes. "But this is no fun!"

"Well, nothing I can do."

Alvis shook his head, shrugging. A perfect act, indeed.

"Ms. Myth, can't you delay our meet-up?"

Her eyes turned colder than the winters in Ignuma.

"No. Or do you want to miss the train?"

Dane clicked his tongue.

Now I have to step up.

"Ms. Myth, aren't you going to the festival?"

"No, there are still things I have to finish for school."

"Sucks to be a teacher."

"What did you say?!"

"Nothing."

"I heard this festival is only once a year and that it's the highlight for everybody. Do you really want to miss that?" Dane said, genuinely wondering.

Ms. Myth went silent for a second, her eyes pondering.

"Well, I guess if I hurry, I can finish my work early and check out the festival."

"Yes!" Dane said, raising his fist like a winner. "Does that mean our meet-up will be later now?"

"Haha, as if."

Dane grimaced, making Ms. Myth and Alvis laugh. However, Alvis laughed for another reason.

Everything went just as planned.

By giving the right comments at the right time, Alvis utilized Dane's character to his advantage. If he had confronted Ms. Myth on his own, she would have gotten suspicious. With Dane on his side, this didn't happen, though. Alvis had steered the conversation like he wanted, with no one noticing, and got the result he needed.

Ms. Myth will be at the festival.

The moment the fight would break out, she would rush to the scene and help. It was her responsibility as a master rank mage.

With that, Alvis had everything he needed.

——

It was five in the morning. Normally, Alvis would wake up at this time to start his morning routine of completing his daily quests in the Mana Forest. This time, however, he didn't have to wake up because he didn't sleep. He couldn't sleep. It was the last night before his ultimate battle.

One week ago, his wife and best friend had died. His plan he had been so confident about, had been an utter failure. Everything had gone wrong.

This can't happen again.

Alvis clenched his shaking fist, somehow trying to gather his resolve. His heart kept pounding against his ribcage, his attempts to calm down his breathing failing again and again. The insane sight of that day couldn't leave his mind.

Shit!

Sweating, Alvis went over his plan once more. He had Lia, Dane, Priest Zaini, and Ms. Myth on his side. He had constructed a plan based on his previous failures with no visible errors. If he didn't make a miscalculation, they could win. As long as Voyzez didn't have another overpowered ability Alvis didn't know about, everything would be fine.

Yes, everything will be fine.

With several deep breaths in and out, Alvis forced himself to calm down. Today, he would also have his date with Lia, so he couldn't worry her all too much.

In one energized movement, Alvis left his bed.

Time to complete my daily quest.

——

"Alvis!"

The beautiful voice of an even more beautiful girl entered Alvis' ears, making him turn around to face her.

"Lia."

She wore the same yellow dress and golden necklace as the last two times. However, her beauty still never ceased to amaze him, no matter how often he would see her.

"You look wonderful."

"Thank you," she said, not able to look him in his eyes. "You look amazing too."

"Let's go enjoy the festival."

From there, almost everything was the same as in the first run. The atmosphere was lively and happy, with no soldiers or mages stationed at every booth. Alvis hadn't contacted the military this time for obvious reasons, letting the people be ignorant of the looming threat. Only Alvis knew what disaster would unfold in a few minutes.

"Alvis, what is wrong?"

Lia stopped walking, her emerald eyes now piercing through Alvis.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't act stupid and tell me what is weighing down on your mind. I can see right through your acting."

"And I thought I was a good actor," Alvis said, chuckling. He had tried his best to let her enjoy their date before the catastrophe would happen, but it seemed like he had failed. However, he knew there was no point in hiding it any further. "This festival will be attacked by the Devil Cult."

He got straight to the point.

"What?!"

Lia's body stiffened as her blood visibly drained from her face.

"Yes, they will attack when the fireworks start. You have to trust me."

"Of course I trust you, but what will you do?"

"I will fight them."

"Then I'm with you."

"I'm counting on you."

Once again, Alvis thanked god for blessing him with such an understanding wife.

"BOOM!"

"It started."

Instead of colorful fireworks, dark matter exploded in the sky, raining down on the festival grounds like shooting stars. But before they could destroy everything, an enormous yellow barrier stretched over the festival grounds, protecting everyone from the darkness.

Priest Zaini kept his promise.

Alvis couldn't see who erected the barrier, yet it saved them. It was the start signal for their battle.

He immediately took out his phone, ignoring the chaos breaking out next to him. Priest Zaini had sent him a message containing the location of Voyzez. Alvis typed as fast as he could, providing Dane with the information he needed. As soon as he finished sending his message, he focused back on Lia.

"I got their location. Let's go."

Lia nodded, and they ran off. The surrounding people had noticed that they were under attack and were panicking. However, people wearing religious clothing evacuated them. Satisfied, Alvis could keep running without having to worry that those innocent people could become Voyzez's puppets of insanity.

Priest Zaini took care of everything.

And it was with that thought that he saw him.

"Priest Zaini, I'm here!"

"Alvis?" he said, turning around to face him. He wore his usual Arifuner clothing, but also the magical staff Alvis and him had talked about. "It's just like you said. The Devil Cult's Priest of Insanity is here."

Sauntering from the distance was a lone man, his menacing aura reaching them from afar. The darkness surrounding him absorbed every light and every step he took made Alvis' heart beat louder. The sheer intensity radiating from this insane man was enough to silence the festival.

"Get ready," Alvis said, clenching his fist. "This is the man we have to beat!"
