Chapter 49 - Forty-Nine: Anchor and Flame (Dom)

The walk we'd gone on had been short and continuously interrupted by pack members. Most eager to see Lena up and well, and others me. Guilt crept up my throat for how neglectful I'd been.

Lena had been having nightmares off and on since she'd returned, and tonight was the first that she'd made it without crying out in her sleep. It was relief and worry all at once. 

She slept beside me, her breath warm against my throat, her fingers curled into the fabric of my shirt like she was afraid I might vanish.

I wasn't going anywhere.

The world outside could shatter. The sky could fall. None of it would matter—not while she was in my arms.

Lena.

My mate. My miracle. My match.

I watched the early morning light break across her face, gilding her lashes and the curve of her cheek, like the sun itself had waited for permission to rise until she was ready to meet it.

She stirred.
