Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

The Shadow of Supremacy… and the Shadow Squad

In the heart of the capital, explosions began happening everywhere, and darkness started to take over the streets. Many members of the Shadow Squad began appearing, killing anyone in their path. A man tried to escape, but one of them rushed in front of him, slicing his body in half. The dust rose, and the beautiful sunset of the capital turned into a bloodstained dusk.

A strong aura emerged from Takeru. He released purple lightning that shattered the ground. Takeru dashed toward one of the Shadow Squad members, who tried to dodge the blow by jumping away, but Takeru teleported in front of him. With a thunderous lightning strike, he obliterated his body, leaving only his torso—his head had been crushed along with his bones. Another tried to pierce Takeru with steel chains, but Takeru drew his sword— a black katana powered by energy—and fused it with his magic. He teleported in front of him, and with one swing of his sword, the enemy was shocked by the monster before him. Before he could react, Takeru sliced through his body with his sharp blade.

I tried to make myself look scared and said, pretending to stutter: "I'll go get reinforcements."

At the same time, Jin was struggling against one of the Shadow Squad members, but he was injured in his arm, falling to the ground, bleeding heavily. Just before he was killed, Takeru managed to save him by forming a lightning circle that exploded into the enemy's body. Jin was shocked—Takeru had only used a fraction of his power, and yet he crushed them.

Jin asked Takeru, "Who are the Shadow Squad? Why are they trying to destroy everything?"

Takeru answered seriously, "They are an elite unit in an organization called Nevaria."

"Nevaria Organization?"

"Yes, it's an organization that conducts experiments on humans. This organization has allied with the yokai. They never used to make big moves—just assassination missions. The Shadow Squad specializes in assassinations; they rarely fight face to face."

Before Takeru could finish, one of the Shadow Squad members appeared behind him and struck him in the back. Before Takeru could retaliate, an explosion destroyed four buildings in front of him. He began thinking to himself, angry:

"What scoundrels… They lack the honor of warriors. They rely only on ambush instead of honorable combat. But one thing I'm certain of—there must be a traitor among us who gave them the perfect time to attack."

"The samurai were known for rules in battle defined as the Samurai's Honor. Whoever broke them would be executed. These rules included fighting face to face, no ambushes or killing from behind, not killing the weak, respecting strong opponents, refusing to fight for money, not mutilating enemy corpses, avoiding dirty tricks, accepting defeat with honor, and never running in the end. What made Takeru furious was that the Shadow Squad was doing the opposite of all those things."

A lightning aura covered the entire area, and with a wave of my hand, I created a hole through four buildings. I teleported at full speed and destroyed his body, just like the first one. He fell with his destroyed body like a shattered puppet. I looked ahead and saw that reinforcements had arrived to fight the Shadow Squad.

But suddenly, from a cursed card of theirs, the dead bodies began to rise, turning into monsters. They looked like werewolves, but their power was truly terrifying. Suddenly, one of them teleported in front of me. I decided to become serious. I rushed toward him, and we collided fists. The ground shattered, the area trembled, and sparks of energy began to fly.

It was good to pretend I was going to get reinforcements. I decided to return to my true form so that suspicion wouldn't increase. I remembered something before—everything was going according to plan. I knew they'd be suspicious of me from the beginning, so I killed one of the Nevaria members, disguised myself as him, and gave them the perfect time for the attack.

I smiled wickedly and climbed to the roof of one of the buildings. One of the organization's members tried to kill me, but I drew my sword and killed him. He fell to the ground, a lifeless corpse.

But then I felt a powerful energy—very strong—from one of their Shadow Squad members. He appeared before me, his aura intense. When I focused on his appearance, I saw he was one of the Shadow Squad. He wore a black cloak covering his entire face, but instead of holding a dagger, he held a katana, and his energy was different from the others.

He rushed at me, drawing his sword to cut me, but I dodged it—what shocked me was that he managed to scratch me, even though I had dodged the blow. I decided to get serious in the fight. I smiled, and my eyes began to turn bloodier.

Suddenly, a world formed, covered in blood. The moon was crimson, the sky a mix of red and black, and even the leaves were soaked in blood. I looked at him, smiling, and said:

"Welcome to my world. Now show me what you've got."
