Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Carter would then look to his right "Speaking of unraveling mysteries… what's in that mysterious sack of yours?"

"I left something unsettled"

"Debt?"

"Yeah" Norman shrugs

"So just, cash?" The soldier inquires further.

"No… it's like, some stuff"

"You gonna sell it?"

"I could"

Something bothered Commander Carter, with the man's condition. His speculation only grew.

"Hmmm," The soldier wondered, "I know you ran upon spotting the troops, but that alone…the kid you found? He really did die from natural causes. You should've known that. I mean you found him yourself… surely the questioning wouldn't have been much of an issue, at that we'd let you walk freely, though… it'd might've been wise to keep an eye on a person like you. After all, it never hurts to be careful right?"

"wow, how… perceptive" Norman comments

"Or does any part of what I said bug you?"

"No, not at all"

"Quite the easy talk too, huh? Now with all of that said, what's got you so… worked up, Why can't you get caught? Mr. Thatcher." The soldier listens intently.

"I have someone to take care off"

"Ah- you see that could mean two things."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah." The soldier raises an eyebrow in amusement " I mean, there's.. violence?"

Norman then tails this, "…there may also be a precious someone. If that's that, it's the second one."

"Then that's absolutely worth getting worked up for, I'd say." A light chuckle from the commander.

They'd both unanimously nod as if to reach a consensus.

"so… did anything happen? I mean you do seem quite battered up, you even got some patches here and there" Commander was close to observe, as if something did in fact happen.

He had a rough idea, that maybe… There was another party involved?

'I mean the man did act out, at least, this is my best bet… What did you do? or… no, what exactly are you gonna do that's so bad…' The soldier's thoughts raced.

"She's… out for a bit"

There was something about this, the commander couldn't quite put a finger on it.

"Were there… no, are there…? people involved?"

"..."

"..."

"What do you mean by that?" There was no malice in the man's voice… What was more notable was the lack thereof.

"Like, others?" Carter adds

"Huh. Yeah… I certainly think so, say, do you know them?"

The soldier scoffs. "No." a brief pause "Do you think i know them?"

The atmosphere seemed tense, when Norman would bluntly put.

"I have other options"

"so… you gonna do something about it?" Carter sided

"I'll settle some other stuff, then uh…hmm…I might give those hooligans a stern talking to…Whoever they are." The man who sat across from the soldier, was one who remained steadfast in his decision.

"And, your loved one?"

"She's in safe hands" Norman let a second fly by, before asking "You feeling obligated to stop me?"

"In all honesty, no. Fighting right now, or in general just isn't ideal. I mean, have a heart. Look around, we might be in an empty building, but like… with the mess that would make." The commander then addresses those outside. Looking at the man as he speaks

"It's only natural to overestimate a threatening situation…can you really blame the masses? Things move the way they aren't supposed to, people get scared, that's why. One thing that does tick me off is it leaves one hell of an impression." Somehow, it felt as if these words were the commander's, and solely his.

"What will it take for you to leave me alone?" Quite straightforward, as it always was, coming from the man who made eye contact with the soldier.

"Well… do you have anything against the government?"

"No."

"That works…" Carter would follow this up with "Where's your wife?"

"Don't push it."

"Alright." He was quick to drop the topic.

"How could we trust you?" The soldier smiles. "Take it from yourself, words are words, aren't they?"

"Yeah" Norman scratches the back of his head out of habit "well… I guess you and your little cohort might just have to wait and see."

"That's true enough"

Norman would get up from the chair, grabbing the bag that carried the shattered hammer up and off the table. He'd walk.

Carter would remark. "Do you think we'd meet again?"

"Probably" The man said back

Outside, Scott and his scholarly friend would bicker.

"I find it odd, for the commander to host the interrogation within the apartment, for him to disregard the formalities of the station, Does he think he's above protocol?!"

"I mean… he's pretty infamous for it."

"Rumors are rumors, I gave him the benefit of the doubt." The officer seems conflicted "How can such a man, of such little discipline in regards to the proper conduct become commander and head of the main forces? It's certainly beyond me."

"Who cares, besides weren't you praising him earlier?"

"I guess so" The scolar straightens his stance "After everything that man has done for the city, I myself would've conducted a poor attitude had I not given his achievements any respect."

"Yeah, with those things outside the walls… who else could fight them without the help of someone crazy enough."

Their manager, the captain, could be seen touching his ear piece. Perhaps, there was a new set of orders to be carried out?

Either way it seems the four of five vans would make their way back to base.

The captain sighs, and the two rowans are left in the dark once more. He hops up, and grabbing a hold of the car door, the manager would look at the clueless two, and say.

"Back to your posts" as the final vehicle drives off along with him.

The two who seem dumbfounded, silent, only to simply leave.

Both Carter and Norman waltzed out from the upper floor,

They'd take the rigid elevator down…

On the ground, Norman looked head on toward his destination… and before they'd parted ways, Carter gave him a firm grip on the shoulder.

"Take care."
