Chapter 33 - chapter -A secret in the old block

Pov:Max

It was supposed to be just another boring afternoon.

Notes. Lectures. The clock dragging its hands in slow motion.

But not for Vin and Kitty.

"Come on, yaar, let's bunk today," Vin whispered, grinning like a mischievous little devil.

Kitty, for once, didn't argue. She needed a break too — from exams, gossip, everything.

Without making much noise, they slipped out of the back door of the lecture hall and disappeared into the half-closed corridors.

Their destination?

The old academic block.

Rumors floated around it like invisible ghosts — everyone said it was haunted.

Some believed it was just silly talk.

Some… weren't so sure.

Vin pushed open the rusty gate, her eyebrows lifting in excitement.

"Do you know the story?" she asked, her voice low.

Kitty shook her head, heart thudding.

"They say a girl… a senior… died here. Right in one of the old classrooms. They say her heart broke so bad, it literally… stopped."

Vin's voice lingered in the air like mist.

Kitty shivered a little, but rolled her eyes. "Bas bas, don't start. It's all drama."

But still… her footsteps were lighter. Her eyes darted around automatically.

The old block smelled of damp walls and forgotten memories.

Sunlight barely entered through the dusty windows.

The air was thick — not heavy exactly, but... different.

They found an old classroom with a few benches still left, crooked and broken.

Plopping down on one of the desks, Vin leaned back.

"If the ghost comes, tell her I'm taking a nap," she joked, closing her eyes.

Kitty giggled nervously, looking around.

The silence felt louder here.

"Seriously though…" Kitty said after a few minutes, lowering her voice, "...was she really in love?"

Vin opened one eye and nodded.

"Yeah. Story goes… she was head over heels for some guy. But he betrayed her. She fainted during class… and never woke up."

For a second, Kitty imagined it — the girl sitting there, heart full of dreams... breaking apart silently.

Maybe that's why even now, the block felt heavy. Like dreams were still trapped in the walls.

Vin and Kitty sat there, legs swinging lazily from the desk.

Somehow, the place didn't seem so scary anymore.

It felt sad.

It felt... unfinished.

They started making up wild theories —

"She must be roaming around looking for true love still!"

"Maybe she'll bless us with good marks if we promise not to break anyone's heart!"

Their laughter echoed strangely against the walls.

It was stupid. Childish.

But it felt good.

For a while, they were just two girls escaping the world — exams, problems, misunderstandings.

Then… suddenly...

Thud.

A door somewhere banged shut by itself.

Vin and Kitty froze mid-laugh.

Eyes wide.

Hands clutching each other's sleeves.

"W-Wind," Kitty stammered, not even convincing herself.

Vin grabbed her hand. "Let's go before the 'broken heart wali ghost' thinks we're mocking her!"

They ran out laughing — but also not daring to look back.

Somewhere, deep in that building, the stories still lived.

Maybe the heartbreak did too.
