"Daddy, I missed you so much!"
With no way out, Adam's eyes sparkled with an idea. He suddenly spread his arms and dashed toward Gilbert, shouting affectionately as he ran.
Gilbert was caught between amusement and exasperation. Looking at the adorable, dramatic little face, he couldn't help but smile and opened his arms to catch him.
"You little brat, who told you to come all the way here?" he scolded, putting on a stern face.
"Daddy, Mommy hit me. She doesn't love me at all. It hurt so much..." Adam pouted, squeezing out a couple of tears as he sobbed and tattled, looking utterly pitiful.
Something in Gilbert's heart softened unexpectedly. Carrying Adam in his arms, he started walking toward the Lincoln.
"Enough crying. Be a man. We'll talk more when we get home," he ordered.
"But Daddy, I'm not a man. I'm just a little boy," Adam protested, his lips still pouting.
Gilbert chuckled and ruffled his hair.
