Chapter 5 - Chapter 5:

The gold coins clinked as they scattered across the wooden floor, creating a shiny, tempting trail between Laura and Ethan. Greed watched them with a cruel smile, savoring their confusion and fear. The game had begun , and the rules, though unknown, seemed sinister .

his chair raised, stood motionless , his gaze fixed on Greed, assessing the threat. Laura, behind him , felt the chill of panic run through her body, but she tried to remain calm, searching for a way out, a way to escape that deadly trap.

" What ... what do you want ?" Ethan asked , his voice firm but cautious, trying to buy time, " What kind of game is this?"

Greed tilted his head in mock derision . " Do you not like the glitter of gold, humans? Are you not drawn to its power? For that is why you have come , is it not? To seek treasure in my house." His raspy voice echoed with a metallic twang , like the clinking of coins.

"No … we don't want your gold," Laura replied , trying to negotiate, looking for a way to appease the creature, "We just want … to leave. Let us out of here . "

Greed let out a shrill laugh, filling the room with malice and sarcasm.

" Leave? Just like that ? After desecrating my home, disturbing my rest … No , humans. That will not be possible . Now you will play my game. And the prize … will be your freedom."

He paused, looking at them with a sharp, menacing gaze, "Or perhaps ... your lives ."

Ethan gritted his teeth, feeling the fury and desperation growing inside him. He wasn't going to be intimidated by that grotesque creature. He wasn't going to fall for its macabre game.

"We're not playing games, Greed," he said, his voice determined, "We're going to end this. Right here, right now." And with a cry of rage, he lunged at Greed, brandishing the wooden chair like a weapon.

Greed grinned wickedly , dodging the chair's blow with surprising agility. He moved swiftly and cleverly, jumping and dodging, outsmarting Ethan's attacks with ease. The chair hit the air, the wall, the floor, but Greed was too slippery to be caught.

Laura watched the scene with her heart in her throat, feeling helpless and terrified. Ethan fought valiantly , but his blows seemed useless against Greed's supernatural agility. They needed another strategy, something that could even the odds, something that could stop the creature .

He remembered the gleam of gold, the coins scattered on the floor, Greed's obsession with his treasure. And an idea, risky but perhaps the only possible one , began to form in his mind.

As Ethan continued to fight Greed, distracting him with her frontal attacks, Laura slowly bent down , picking up one of the gold coins from the ground. It felt cold and heavy in her hand, shining with a strange , tempting light. The temptation of Greed … could I use it against the creature itself?

swift , decisive movement , Laura tossed the gold coin into the air, as far as possible, toward the dark hallway outside the room . The coin clinked as it fell to the floor, resonating loudly in the tense silence.

Greed stopped dead in his tracks, interrupting his game of chase with Ethan. His glittering eyes fixed on the gold coin lying in the hallway, and a look of greed and obsession took over his grotesque face. He forgot Ethan , he forgot Laura , he forgot everything except the golden gleam of the precious metal.

" My gold!" hissed Greed , his voice thick with desire and need, " My treasure! You may not touch my gold!" And with surprising speed, he took off after the coin, leaving Laura and Ethan alone and stunned .

Ethan lowered his chair slowly, breathing heavily, his gaze fixed on the dark hallway where Greed had disappeared . " What ... what did you do, Laura?" he asked , his voice choked up. " Why did you throw the coin?"

Laura stood up , her gaze still fixed on the hallway, "I don't know ... it just ... occurred to me . I thought that ... maybe ... his greed ... could be his weakness. That the gold ... could distract him ... at least for a moment."

Ethan looked at her in disbelief, but also with a glimmer of hope. " Do you think it'll work ? " he asked . " Do you think we can escape?"

Laura shook her head, her expression uncertain. "I don't know , Ethan. But we have to try. It's our only chance."

We have to use their greed against them.

We have to lure him … away from us … and find a way to escape from this house."

He took Ethan's hand tightly, "Come on, Ethan.

Now is the time. We have to outsmart Greed . We have to use his very obsession … to defeat him." And with renewed determination , they set off down the dark corridor, following the glittering trail of gold coins, into the unknown, into the heart of the nightmare at Bellwether Manor .
