Chapter 23 - Kaguya's challenge

[Successful use! Matching degree: 70%]

A jolt of pure power surged through Kifune, invigorating every fiber of his being. It was an exhilarating rush, akin to an intense energy drink, but instead of jitters, he felt an amplified sense of strength and skill coursing through him.

A satisfied groan escaped Kifune's lips. "Ah, power. It's like a comforting embrace… with significantly more potential for explosions."

He furrowed his brow, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. Why the 70% compatibility this time? The Miura Kazuo card had only yielded 50%. Was it a better skill set match? Or perhaps the system simply favored him today. Regardless, he wasn't about to overthink it. Elite Jonin strength and Quasi-Kage level experience were nothing to scoff at. He felt capable of facing… well, at least one very enthusiastic Kaguya clan member.

Kaguya Chiren, meanwhile, was practically buzzing with anticipation. He'd been ready to swat Kifune aside like an annoying insect, but the sudden shift in the boy's aura was palpable. A raw, dangerous energy now emanated from the previously unremarkable Genin.

"He went from a scrawny pup to a cornered wolf," Chiren muttered, his grin widening into a display of sharp teeth. "Interesting. Very interesting indeed!"

Kifune rolled his eyes, the newfound power lending him a touch of arrogance. "Yeah, yeah, I'm a fascinating case study. Can we skip the villain monologue and get to the part where I introduce your face to my fist?"

Chiren needed no further prompting. Both ninjas moved simultaneously, their fists colliding with a thunderous BANG that reverberated through the forest. Leaves spiraled into the air, and cracks spiderwebbed across the ground beneath their feet.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

They traded rapid blows, a brutal dance of fists and feet. Kifune held his own, the borrowed strength and Akagi Tsukasa's combat instincts guiding his movements. But Chiren was a formidable opponent. His naturally enhanced bone structure and unpredictable, savage fighting style made him a terrifying force.

At one point, amidst the flurry of blows, Kifune couldn't help but think, If this guy ever learned the Eight Gates, he'd probably punch Madara into next Tuesday.

Finally, they broke apart, both panting heavily, their gazes locked in a fierce standoff.

"Magnificent! Truly magnificent!" Chiren roared, his eyes gleaming with a manic intensity. "I never expected such resilience from a mere child!"

Kifune smirked, wiping a trickle of blood from his lip. "Yeah, well, I never expected to fight someone who looks like they escaped from a rejected manga panel. But here we are."

He knew he couldn't afford to waste time. The experience card had a limited duration, and he wasn't about to risk reverting to his Genin self mid-battle. His hands flashed through a rapid sequence of hand seals.

"Earth Style: Yellow Spring Swamp!"

The ground beneath Chiren's feet liquefied, turning into a viscous, sucking mire.

"Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bomb!"

A colossal dragon formed from earth and rock erupted from the ground, its roar a deafening rumble as it lunged towards the ensnared Chiren.

And then, deciding that overkill was the best approach, Kifune combined the two techniques.

"Ninpo Technique: Mire Hidden Dragon!"

The swamp churned violently, and the earth dragon merged with the mire, becoming a terrifying, mud-slicked behemoth. It surged forward, its gaping maw ready to engulf the struggling Kaguya.

Kifune crossed his arms, a smug expression on his face. "Now, let's see you bone your way out of this."
