Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: Secrets in Memory

Ian lay on the ground, his chest heaving violently, and the smell of blood and scorching filled the air. He looked wearily at the slowly retreating pack of mutant beasts in the distance, but his heart did not have the slightest joy of victory, instead, it was filled with heaviness and uneasiness.

After a brief respite, Ian gradually felt some of the energy in his body recover.

He turned his head towards the corpse of the fallen Luminary-class mutant beast, and with strong support for his weak body, he walked with difficulty to the side of the corpse. He squatted his body and gently pressed his palm on top of the mutant beast's huge head.

"I hope I can find some useful information." Ian whispered to himself, then activated the memory reading skill he had just acquired.

Instantly, a burst of chaotic memory fragments frantically flooded into Ian's mind, various images and sounds rapidly intertwined, and he felt a sharp pain in his head, but he clenched his teeth and tried to focus on the most important information.

The images in his memory gradually became clearer, and Ian saw something that shocked him to the core. His eyes snapped open, filled with shock and doubt.

"How is it possible ... it turned out to be like this ...," Ian whispered, a deep shock and uneasiness in his eyes.

[Limited Mission Completion: Find out why the mutant beasts attacked the City of Ashes]

[Mission Reward: Random Ability X1]

[Congratulations to the host, obtaining the ability: Illusion Creation (create illusions within ten meters around yourself, may be recognized when facing high level targets)]

Ian couldn't wait to be happy about obtaining a new ability, his heart was violently undulating and his mind kept flashing with images of memories that he had just read. He had never imagined that such a shocking secret was hidden behind the disaster that had befallen the City of Ashes.

Ian slowly stood up and looked into the distance, his eyes becoming complex and deep. He decided not to tell others the truth for the time being, and for now, he should focus on dealing with the crisis in the City of Ashes.

At this moment, outside the city, three figures were slowly walking back. William, Alexander, and Adrian were covered in wounds and stumbling, clearly the battle just now had cost them greatly.

"Ian, are you alright? I really didn't expect that you actually managed to defeat the Luminary-class mutant beast" William first walked over to Ian, his tone of voice carrying obvious fatigue.

Ian shook his head gently, barely squeezing out a smile, "It was the chance that countless lives were exchanged for. How are you guys doing?"

Alexander let out a bitter smile, "We were barely able to hold off those guys, but the cost was a bit high, and I'm afraid it will be difficult to fight again in a short period of time."

Adrian added with a pale face, "The city walls have been completely lost, we must quickly regroup or the next wave of attacks will be difficult to resist."

The crowd nodded in agreement and quickly began to take a short break within the city. The surrounding warriors organized themselves to clean up the battlefield and treat the wounded.

Ian sat on the edge of the ruins and looked at the blackened swarm of beasts still gathered outside the city in the distance, apparently not completely withdrawn, but instead were stirring, and could attack again at any time.

His mood became heavier. Although the warriors within the city had temporarily recovered some of their morale, most of them were in very poor physical condition, and it was feared that it would be difficult to support them after going through the same scale of battle again.

Just then, William slowly walked over to Ian and sat down beside him, his voice was low as he asked, "Ian, I heard about the relics, do you think that the appearance of the relics is related to the attack on the city by the mutant beasts?"

Ian was silent for a moment and slowly spoke, "William, don't think too much for now, we have to try to hold the city at the moment, regardless of whether there is a connection or not, we can't leave the residents of the city behind, all I can tell you is that this attack is definitely not a coincidence, but rather there is a much deeper reason for it."

William's face was grave as he nodded, "Alright, I believe you, let's hold the city before anything else."

Ian nodded slightly and continued to look at the beasts that were foolishly moving in the distance, his eyes becoming more and more determined, "No matter what, we must hold on."

Ian regained his grip on the long sword in his hand.

.....

After a day of rest and recuperation, Ian's condition had recovered by 80%, using the Talent Strengthening Points gained from completing the quest to raise both his Lightning Mastery and Mental Impact abilities to FLARE level, Ian's attacking ability was once again greatly improved.

The number of mutant beasts outside the city was also replenished, but the number of replenishments was far less than before, and it was obvious that their numbers were not endless

Ian and the top management of the three major forces discussed the subsequent arrangements together, and William was the first to speak up, "We have just counted yesterday's casualties, and the situation is currently unfavorable for us, and I'm afraid that it will be difficult to withstand the next round of attacks. "

"We now need to find a way to quickly resolve the Luminary class mutant beasts, after resolving the Luminary class, the other mutant beasts can't pose much of a threat. "

"But how to solve the Luminary level mutant beasts? The combat power of humans of the same level can exceed that of mutant beasts, but there are more of them. "

Listening to the crowd's heated discussion, Adrian suddenly opened his mouth, "I have a way to solve the Luminary level mutant beasts."
