Chapter 13: Pewter City
~Azure S. POV~
[Kanto Region, Route 2]
Finally. After leaving Viridian Forest through the Gate in the early morning, I finally found myself in Route 2 again in the Northern area and then straight towards Pewter City.
Holding my Poke Ball containing Dratini, I couldn't help but feel I lucked out getting her this early on, especially with Dratini having Dragon Dance early on. Plus, I can set my sights on Route 3 for a Rare Spawn encounter with Charmander.
Considering I put Dratini into her Poke Ball, I had Pikachu out perched over my shoulder, keeping an eye on the situation. The last thing I need is to be pounced on by a wild Pokémon walking my way out of Viridian Forest.
I felt a shiver run down my spine even thinking about entering that damn forest again. I got lucky, is what I've been handed by Lady Luck.
The number of different Pokémon in different ecosystems is crazy. I could only sigh, defeated that I couldn't afford more time to train my Pokémon some more.
It was such a shame, but in return, I've got a Dratini instead after my patience is rewarded. I'm thankful for my knowledge being useful so far.
But reaching my destination soon enough, I smiled as I informed my partner in an excited tone, "We're almost there, partner. The next stop is Pewter City!"

[Kanto Region, Pewter City]
[Observe].
[Location: Pewter City
Description: It is A quiet city nestled between rugged mountains and rocks. The stone city rests at the foot of a great rocky mountain.]
Huh? Blinking a bit surprised at Pewter City, it certainly looked different from what I remembered from the series.
Still, there are a lot of tall buildings like in the game, along with some stands in the marketplace. I look around the buildings nearby as I see a poster with a picture of a Pikachu on it, making me blink, seeing that either Red has already captured Pika or hasn't yet, but that's not my issue.
Seeing the poster signs around, I also see a challenge notice from Brock to start battling tomorrow at noon, making me smile, giving myself a chance to fight and train my Pokémon in the process. It was best I head to the Pokémon Center to heal my Pokémon as soon as possible.
Looking around, my eyes wander towards the Pewter City Museum of Science, trying to remember any game knowledge related to it. One of Pewter City's main attractions is the famous museum located in the northwestern part of the city.
The main building is open to the public for Pokémon 50 Poke Dollars and features several scientific artifacts. There are two floors to explore in the Pewter Museum of Science. The first floor holds the front desk and a fossil exhibit containing the fossils of Aerodactyl and Kabutops.
The second floor hosts a space exhibit, featuring a space shuttle and a large Moon Stone that fell from space and landed on Mt. Moon. The player is able to explore the museum at any time after paying the admission fee.
Once the ability to use Cut out of battle is gained, the player can sneak into the back of the museum and acquire the Old Amber from a scientist there, allowing the player to revive an Aerodactyl later in the game.
In FireRed and LeafGreen, there is also a Move Tutor who will teach Seismic Toss to one of the player's compatible Pokémon. Well… It's worth a shot to see where it's located to see if I could get the Old Amber.
Moving forward and remembering all the tracks needed to get the Old Amber from the games. I began to walk through Pewter City till I finally made it to one of the edges of town, sneaking my way back to the Museum till I saw a problem…
Trees… right, I need the move cut to bring it down. And I don't have that yet.
Oh well. Not like I would need that fossil Pokémon anyway.
It would be another mouth to feed, and even then, I doubt I would have the money to pay for its big appetite. Moving on from here, I began to make my move to the Pokémon Center before it got totaled, leaving me without a place to take a bath.

[Kanto Region, Pewter City – Pokémon Center]
Phew… managing to make it to the Pokémon Center, I've managed to get my priorities: preparing my Pokémon and getting a bath. Taking this time, I've had the chance to finally eat some food with my bowls ready for my Pokémon.
placed the bowls down on the table. I smiled as I called out my Pokémon with Pikachu already out in a happy tone, "Alright, you two, time to chow down! Pikachu. Dratini. Time to for lunch!"
*Pop*
Releasing them from their Poke Balls, they greeted me respectfully with their cries, "Dra! Pika!"
Upon seeing the bowls of food prepared for them, Dratini cried happily as she ate her Dragon-type food. Pikachu took his time to enjoy his food, as did I, smiling contentedly at their reaction. So long as my Pokémon is happy, I'm happy.
*Chop*
I took a bite out of my lunch, which consisted of a sandwich and a drink that I prepared beforehand and saved in my [Sub-Space]. Fun fact: my [Sub-Space] can keep any food frozen when placed inside, so I have no worries if my items ever rot or expire.
Thus, I made sure to prepare my food in advance before traveling. Along with stockpiling food supplies, I'll need to be careful about what my Pokémon's diets are in the future.
But what would be helpful is to get a healer in my team. Someone who can heal my Pokémon rather easily, as I won't have to spend so much on Potions or medicine needed when my Pokémon or I are in trouble with a status ailment.
While I was enjoying my lunch, a voice I recognized came up to me in a surprised tone, "I don't believe it. How the heck did you get a Dratini?"
Turning around, I saw the stunned expression of Blue eyes gazing at my Dratini. I suppose we would eventually meet as I greeted him in a kind tone, "Sup, Blue. I found her in Viridian Forest as I was searching for a Pokémon for my team. I suppose I'm not the only one who found suitable Pokémon."
My gaze shifted as I turned towards the Pokémon standing right next to Blue. It is a humanoid, bipedal Pokémon that has blue-gray skin. It has three brown ridges on top of its head, large red eyes, and a relatively flat face. On either side of its chest are three thin, rib-like stripes. Its feet appear to have no toes, while its hands have five fingers. It also has a short, stubby tail.
The Pokémon next to him was no doubt a Machop, with Blue explaining with a confident grin in a chill tone, "You guessed right. This is the Machop I encountered in Viridian Forest, along with a few others not native to the area. Although…"
His eyes squinted as he gazed at my Pikachu. No, he stared intently at the [Light Ball] around my partner's neck as he calmly said, impressed, "[Light Ball] huh? I guess you're not a mediocre Trainer if you're using [Held Items]. I'm assuming you have your starter, be that Pikachu?"
I lightly chuckled, shaking my head as I explained to Blue, pointing at Pikachu being my starter, in a calm tone, "Hahaha… yeah. Pikachu is my starter Pokémon. The best partner I could've asked for."
Blue merely hummed, seeing how I nurtured my Pokémon, as he asked curiously of me holding the poster, "You gonna try attempting to challenge the Gym Leader of Pewter City by chance?"
Nodding my head, finishing up my lunch as I explained calmly my odds of challenging the Pewter City Gym, "Yup! I'm not sure if I'm that confident in winning, but it'll be a great learning experience for my Pokémon. Whether I win or lose, I'll gain valuable experience to grow."
Blue seemed to nod with a light smile, gazing at my roster as he said confidently, "With your roster, you might be able to pull through. Either way, better not hope you'll face me in the matches ahead, or else I'll pay you back for that earlier attack in Viridian Forest. Smell ya later."
He turned around, leaving me alone at peace with my Pokémon, frowning at Blue's arrogant demeanor. I don't blame them, but he kind of has every right to be an arrogant jerk, considering his Pokémon levels with me using my [Observe].
[Machop (M) Lv.18 Superpower Pokémon]
[Scyther (M) Lv.30 Mantis Pokémon]
[Pidgeotto (M) Lv.20 Bird Pokémon]
[Charmeleon (M) Lv.18 Flame Pokémon]
Bruh… I hope I don't get to fight him during the elimination rounds for Brock's Gym. But then again…
My gaze shifted to my own Pokémon, using [Observe] to see their levels. The battles in Viridian Forest certainly made my two Pokémon strong, but compared to Blue, they're weak by comparison.
[Dratini (F) Lv.15 Dragon Pokémon]
[Partner Pikachu (M) Lv.18 Mouse Pokémon]
Yeah, if we did fight, I would be slaughtered, hands down. My strongest is compared to Blue's weakest Pokémon.
I guess I gotta lock in and prepare for the Gym Battles ahead. But also the responsibilities of being a Pokémon Trainer.
It just amazes me how Pokémon are this awesome. But it did remind me of the webpage wiki regarding trainers I read online concerning Pokémon Teams, though, with the number of Pokémon I have.
The reason why Pokémon Trainers have six on hand, or mainly 6 in general. Of course, it's possible to carry seven or eight Pokémon – even twenty or thirty, if for some reason you must. But how could one Trainer give that many Pokémon enough individual love and attention?
It's possible, but it also comes with its downside. The issue with trainers always having more than six Pokémon is a lack of affection, leading to them to disobey or, in most common cases, run away from the Trainer.
In the wiki, it was explained that it's the most common scenario for those who collect more than 6 Pokémon; giving more love and attention to another would lead to inner conflict. Only researchers can justify big collections.
Among trainers, anyone who is over six is disparaged. It's the main reason why the Pokémon League decreed 6-to-1 as the ideal Pokémon-to-Trainer Ratio. It's the perfect balance for a serious Trainer.
Another example might be that it's a part of humanity towards the Pokémons. For example, when a trainer has too many Pokémon with him, he must feed all of them, train all of them, and care for all of them. This may prove to be a hindrance.
Also, the Pokémon would keep fighting for their Trainer's attention. So, the authorities must have added this rule so that it is easy for both the Trainer and his Pokémon.
Thinking of this made me frown, considering that if I plan to add more Pokémon into my rotation in the future, it'll take years to properly get them high level. Even with my Trainer License having extra Pokémon sent over to Prof. Oak, I scowled at the idea.
I'm not to blame the professor, but he'd been kidnapped in the manga before. Twice in Fire Red Arc with the Kanto Dex Holders against Deoxys – fuck.
My eyes widened just remembering this now. Didn't, or when Red wins the Ninth Triennial Indigo League, is when the Pokémon Association tried to capture Rayquaza to control it, leading to the death of Draconid Lorekeeper, Aster?
Right in this canon, Rayquaza was captured by the Pokémon Association, which led to the death of its trainer. The Pokémon Association is a governing body that handles legislation regarding Pokémon in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
The Association is the group that selects and pays the salaries of Gym Leaders and organizes Pokémon League competitions across the nation. They are also apparently responsible for drawing up and often enforcing laws regarding Pokémon and general competition between Pokémon Trainers.
They are the creators of different types of battles, such as the Triple Battle. Some of the laws created by the Association include the famous rule that states a Trainer can only carry six Pokémon with them at a time. In addition, they provide Great Balls for all Gym Leaders to use.
Having four slots left, I must consider which ones I'll need. Having Pikachu as my fast hitter and scout helps me greatly.
Dratini is an all-rounder and currently another force to be reckoned with. But in the end, I'll need a Pokémon that's loyal to me, as I've bonded with Pikachu and Dratini submitted to me, eventually forming a bond.
Eventually, I'll need a strong Pokémon, but one that's loyal. I'll need a Pokémon that's determined to willingly train and travel with me.
We must be on the same page so that my Pokémon work hard following the same goals, or somehow save a Pokémon, earning their trust and loyalty instantly. But obtaining a Legendary Pokémon would be ideal.
But recounting the number of Legendary Pokémon in the series or Adventures? Not unless I have a couple of Gym Badges to make them obey, or if I've managed to earn their respect following me.
Sigh... just one step, Sky. Just one step at a time.
