Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Lone Warrior

After defeating the samurai boy, Mason learned from him about the location of a Scyther nest deep within Viridian Forest. Determined to capture a powerful Scyther, Mason set off toward the designated area with purpose in his steps.

"The power of the waves is in my heart," Mason whispered, closing his eyes to attune himself to the life forces around him.

Within moments, Mason locked onto a particularly strong wave signature—much more potent than that of its peers. However, when he found its source, he was surprised. A cyan-colored Scyther was fighting desperately against five others of its kind, seemingly being expelled from the group.

Without hesitation, Mason used Teleport and appeared near the battling Scythers.

The scene was intense. The cyan Scyther, a rare deviation from the typical green coloring, was putting up a fierce fight. Normally, Scythers blended seamlessly with the lush greens of Viridian Forest, but this blue-toned Scyther stood out sharply, making it vulnerable in the wild. To survive, it had been forced to rely solely on its strength.

The leader of the opposing group charged first, using Quick Attack. However, the cyan Scyther countered with its own Quick Attack, colliding midair and sending the leader flying backward almost three meters, nearly crashing into a tree. Without missing a beat, the cyan Scyther unleashed Razor Wind, completely overwhelming the leader.

The remaining Scythers hesitated but stayed aggressive. Despite being outnumbered, the cyan Scyther stood proudly, his scythes gleaming dangerously in the sunlight.

"You worthless fools think you can defeat me?" the cyan Scyther scoffed, waving his blades provocatively.

(Scyther's dialogue is translated from Pokémon language for clarity.)

One of the Scythers shouted back in anger, "Don't get cocky! Without the old chief's protection, you're nothing!"

As it turned out, the cyan Scyther was the only offspring of the previous tribe chief, respected but also resented for his differences. However, as the old chief aged and grew weaker, he was eventually overthrown and exiled. With the chief gone, the cyan Scyther found himself without allies among his peers.

"You're all mistaken," the cyan Scyther growled. "I wasn't exiled—I left because I refused to stay in a tribe of cowards!"

With a flash of fury, he used Fury Cutter to strike down the Scyther who had insulted him. The remaining three hesitated, but the cyan Scyther gave them no chance to regroup. Using Agility to close the distance, he unleashed an Air Slash at point-blank range, defeating them all effortlessly.

Watching the battle unfold, Mason couldn't help but admire the cyan Scyther's skill and tenacity.

"Impressive, Scyther. I like your spirit," Mason said, stepping forward, his presence finally noticed.

The cyan Scyther glared at Mason, his blades glowing faintly with green energy—a silent warning.

"Lose to me and become my companion," Mason offered calmly, ignoring the hostility in Scyther's posture.

Scyther nodded silently, accepting the challenge. Proud as he was, if he could defeat Mason, it would end this foolish idea quickly.

Without a word, Mason tapped a Poké Ball on his belt. A powerful Beedrill emerged, buzzing menacingly. Scyther immediately recognized Beedrill's strength and instinctively tightened his grip on his blades.

Since his defeat by Giovanni's Beedrill, Mason's Beedrill had undergone rigorous training, emerging stronger than ever. However, Mason had carefully managed the intensity of Beedrill's regimen, preventing overtraining and injury.

Facing Beedrill, the cyan Scyther steeled himself.

(If I follow this Trainer... maybe I can grow even stronger.)

Scyther decided he would prove his worth before submitting. His sickles gleamed as he launched a flurry of Air Slashes toward Beedrill.

Reacting instantly, Beedrill used Agility to dodge the attacks without awaiting any command from Mason.

"Tch! You don't even need orders to move?" Scyther muttered irritably as he closed the gap and struck with Fury Cutter.

"You're a Technical Expert user, aren't you?" Mason observed casually. "That earlier Quick Attack was far stronger than normal."

(Technical Expert: This Ability boosts the power of moves with 60 base power or less by 50%.)

Scyther gave no reply but didn't refute it either, confirming Mason's deduction.

Their blades clashed—Fury Cutter versus Twineedle. Yet Beedrill's strength clearly outclassed Scyther's. After a brief struggle, Beedrill forced Scyther backward, dragging deep grooves across the forest floor.

(I can't even match one strike!)

Realizing the difference in strength, Scyther decided to risk everything in one final blow.

Closing his eyes, Scyther gathered all his energy. His body shimmered with a green glow as he used Laser Focus to concentrate fully. Beedrill didn't interrupt, exuding the quiet confidence of a true warrior.

Scyther's eyes snapped open. He charged with incredible speed, executing an X-Scissor aimed directly at Beedrill's heart.

But Beedrill met the assault head-on, using his own X-Scissor to block. Their attacks clashed violently, and when the dust cleared, Scyther collapsed from exhaustion.

Seizing the moment, Mason tossed a Poké Ball. The ball struck Scyther, enveloped him in red light, and after a moment's stillness, clicked shut.

The capture was complete—perfectly.

"Come out, Scyther," Mason said, activating the Poké Ball.

The newly caught Scyther emerged, breathing heavily, his body trembling from the battle and the lingering effects of Beedrill's Poison Jab.

Mason immediately knelt beside him, pulling out a healing spray and an antidote. Carefully, he treated Scyther's wounds, easing his pain. The cyan Scyther silently closed his eyes, allowing himself to be cared for—still too proud to voice his gratitude aloud.

Even severely injured, he maintained a warrior's dignity.

After treating him, Mason smiled faintly. "You fought well. From now on, you're one of us."

Scyther opened his eyes and looked at Mason deeply, a silent bond forming between them.

As a final touch, Mason tapped a device on his wrist, subtly enhancing Scyther's abilities by adding the Insect Premonition skill—further boosting his future attack power.

With the addition of this exceptional Scyther, Mason's team grew even stronger.

The forest had given him not just another Pokémon, but a true warrior companion.
