Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13

You have completed the teaching of "Blinking Technique" and "Thinking."

[Evaluation: Excellent!]

[Award:]

1. Earth Style: Earth Spear

2. Genjutsu Power

3. Water Style: Water Severing Wave

The host can choose the second one.

Two out of three?

Jingyi's eyes lit up.

Sure enough.

Ideological teaching also comes with rewards, and they are quite generous. These three techniques are very powerful and hold immense potential. Any one of them is strong, and this time, he could choose two.

"So torn!"

It was too hard to choose.

If he had to choose one to skip...

"I choose one and three."

Jingyi thought it through and finally made his decision.

After his Senju physique was awakened, both Water and Earth Style received good boosts. Now, as he approached promotion to Jōnin, one of the criteria was

To master two or more nature transformations.

Jingyi had three chakra attributes: Earth, Water, and Wind.

He had currently only mastered Water Style.

Based on his past system rewards, he guessed that learning Earth Spear would also grant some insight into Earth Style nature transformation.

As for Water Severing Wave...

This jutsu was extremely powerful!

[Received Successfully]

A wave of knowledge flooded into his mind.

This was the memory of both techniques.

Simultaneously

Jingyi felt he could use them immediately without practice. With the knowledge implanted, he had no regrets about his choice.

Earth Spear didn't require hand seals.

Water Severing Wave needed only a few seals, and its power was massive!

As for Genjutsu...

"Although it's a pity, if I spend some time searching, it shouldn't be too hard to find Tsunade. With my Senju bloodline, it shouldn't be a problem to learn it..."

Jingyi said to himself.

Just after selecting the reward, another voice sounded.

[Completed Uchiha Shisui's "Ideological" teaching. He regards you as a life mentor.]

[Evaluation: Excellent]

[Reward: Blinking Technique – Variant]

Huh?

Jingyi was stunned when he heard the notification.

The previous reward was expected, but this one came out of nowhere...

Mentor?

He didn't even feel like he had taught anything.

What a pleasant surprise.

Jingyi took a few steps and then stopped, recalling the question Shisui had asked him earlier.

"Does this kid want to be the Genin on my team?"

Kanda Jingyi hadn't expected his first "student" as a mentor to be Shisui.

He was a little dumbfounded.

Well, Shisui could still be guided. With his own unique interpretation of the Will of Fire, he wouldn't end up as naive as before.

As he walked toward his home, just as he rounded a corner, a figure suddenly burst out with a "whoosh."

"Brother Kanda, let's have a test of youth and blood! Whoever runs 300 laps first wins! The loser"

"Guy, I have things to do. Next time."

Jingyi's face darkened.

Damn it.

Training together was fine, but once Guy started a "youth battle" like this, it would lead to a relentless cycle of challenges.

He didn't want to end up like Kakashi.

"What a shame I couldn't find Kakashi…"

Jingyi leaned against the wall and flicked his fingers. Chakra flowed out as he quickly sensed the surroundings.

Soon

He smiled and said, "If you want to find Kakashi, go down this street. You'll see him near the river."

"Huh? Really? Thank you, Kanda-san! OHHH… Kakashi, let's have a BLOODY YOUTH BATTLE!"

Guy took off toward the river, shouting as he went.

As expected of Konoha's Blue Beast.

Jingyi sighed in relief.

Thank goodness Kakashi was back in the village.

After getting rid of Might Guy, he walked a few steps and suddenly sensed someone trailing him.

"Asuma?"

"Uh, teacher… I'm sorry. I didn't mean to follow—no, I…"

"Do you have a question?"

Jingyi hadn't expected Asuma to be following him and was a little surprised.

Asuma scratched his head. Without his beard, he looked rather handsome, but right now, he looked awkward.

"Come on, let's go to my place and talk."

Jingyi nodded.

He could tell Asuma had a lot on his mind and wanted to ask something.

Though still a student, Asuma's thoughts were already forming. Otherwise, he wouldn't be promoted to Chūnin at age twelve.

Keep in mind this was during the war. Obito and Rin, who graduated with him, were promoted at eleven.

Asuma had talent.

There had to be a reason he lagged behind those two.

Jingyi didn't know the specifics, but judging by future events, it wasn't a matter of skill or potential clearly, the issue was Asuma's mindset.

Asuma followed along, glancing around. He suddenly realized something.

"This place used to be…"

"A Senju branch household."

Jingyi nodded.

His family once belonged to the Senju Clan, but by the late First Hokage era, the clan began to intermarry, and their distinct identity faded.

By the time of the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama, the clan had nearly vanished.

His family had branched out during Tobirama's time.

"You're still part of the Senju family, then…"

"Not really my grandmother was."

Jingyi smiled, then quietly dispelled the shadow clones training in the yard. He opened the door and gestured for Asuma to sit.

Asuma was a little nervous.

But

After a few sips of water, he relaxed, looked around, and said, "Teacher… I want to ask a personal question. Who do you think is the 'king' in our shinobi game of shogi?"

"The king?"

As expected.

Jingyi wasn't surprised.

He didn't know whether to say Hiruzen taught him well or not.

On one hand…

Asuma didn't fully absorb it and even rebelled later by joining the Guardian Twelve.

On the other…

He had clearly started reflecting at a young age.

Jingyi thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "I don't think it matters who the king is. A thousand people have a thousand kings in their hearts. What matters is protecting it."

"A thousand people, a thousand kings…"

"Protect it?"

Asuma repeated it to himself and found it meaningful.

But

After thinking more deeply, he felt like Jingyi hadn't said much. Of course the king had to be protected. If he died, you lost the game.

"Let me give you an example. When White Fang was on a mission, he chose to save his comrades, and for that, he was denounced by the village and ultimately took his own life. What do you think his 'king' was?"

"Lord White Fang?"

Asuma wanted to answer, but couldn't right away.

He thought for a long while.

Eventually…

"His comrades?"

"Yes. In White Fang's heart, the lives of his comrades were more important than the mission. He chose to protect them. What you value the most that's your king."

"So that's how it is…"

Asuma was deep in thought.

Even though it didn't seem like Jingyi said much, somehow, he felt he understood though not entirely.

After a long silence, he snapped out of it and bowed.

"Thank you for your guidance!"

"If you don't have more questions, do you want something to eat?"

"No, my mother's probably waiting for me. Thank you again I'll be going now!"

"Huff… huff…"

"Kakashi! Only a hundred laps to go! The flames of youth must not be extinguished!"

Might Guy shouted as he ran.

Beside him, Kakashi was giving chase.

His mask covered his expression, but his eyes were full of murder.

"Guy… who told you I was here?"

The location had been too well-hidden.

If no one tipped him off, there was no way Guy's perception could have found him.

"I'll tell you if you beat me!"

"Hmph."

Kakashi narrowed his eyes and sped up.
