Chapter 9 - Exposed

"You are just jealous, Ruby," Dani sneered. "The judges are esteemed individuals, and they're busy. Let's end this".

"You see how sensible she is. Ruby, step down, " Michael roared.

Ruby's eyes flashed with determination as she stood her ground. "I'm not being jealous, Dani. I'm standing up for my rights as an artist. That artwork is mine."

Michael's face reddened further, his voice rising. "You are just a foolish child, Ruby. You don't know what's good for you. Step down now, and let's end this nonsense.

Ruby refused to back down. She knew she had to fight for her integrity, no matter what it takes.

"I won't step down, Father, I won't let anyone silence me".

The audience murmurs grew louder, sensing the escalating tension. The judges exchanged glances, aware that the situation was spiraling out of control .

Aurora spoke up, her voice firm. "Enough, everyone. We've heard enough accusations and denials. Let's focus on the investigation and get to the bottom of this."

Liam nodded in agreement . "Yes, let's proceed with the investigation. We can't let personal agendas cloud our judgement ".

The emcee, quickly intervened. "Let's take a break and reconvene when emotions have cooled down. We will start the investigation and make a decision ".

As the audience began to disperse, Ruby's eyes locked onto Dani's who was snarling at her.

A fierce determination burning within her, she knew she had to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, whispers began to circulate about the potential consequences of Ruby's accusations.

Some speculated that Dani's reputation would be ruined if the allegations were true, while others wondered if Ruby's actions would backfire and damage her own reputation.

As the crowd dispersed, Ruby's family remained seated, their expressions a mix of concern and annoyance .

Michael's anger was palpable, while Victoria's impassive facade seemed to be cracking slightly.

Emily and Ethan, on the other hand, seemed more interested in the drama unfolding than the actual art competition.

*,, Behind the scenes,,,*

Mr and Mrs Brooks, aware of Dani's deceit, decided to offer Michael a bribe to end this investigation.

As Michael accepted the bribe, a subtle smile spread across his face. Mr and Mrs Brooks breathed a sigh of relief, believing they had secured Dani's interests.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Liam had instructed his guards to monitor the situation.

Liam's guard monitoring the situation, noticed the suspicious interaction between Michael and the Brooks family.

He informed Liam, who raised an eyebrow....

,,, *The investigation resumes*,,,

The audience reconvened , meanwhile the judges had begun discussing with Aurora emphasizing that only an artist can explain the details of their artwork.

Her emphasis on artistic expertise resonated with the other judges. Liam nodded in agreement, "Yes, an artist's unique perspective and techniques can reveal a lot about their work".

The judges began discussing the specific details of artwork, analyzing the brushstrokes, color pallet and composition.

Ruby's anticipation grew. She knew that the investigations outcome would determine her artistic integrity and reputation.

Dani, on the other hand, seemed increasingly agitated, her confidence wavering.

Mr and Mrs Brooks discreetly signalled to Dani, trying to reassure her.

Dani and Ruby were called to the stage to explain the details of the artwork.

Dani and Ruby stepped onto the stage, the soft glow of the spotlights illuminating their tense faces. The audience's murmurs hushed as Aurora's calm yet probing voice broke the silence. "Dani, walk us through your creative process. What inspired this piece, and how did you execute it?".

The sound of Dani's heels clicking on the stage floor seemed amplified as she shifted her weight .

Dani hesitated, her eyes darting to her parents before responding. "Uh, yeah... I was inspired by... nature and stuff. I used a mix of techniques, like... layering and texture." Her voice trembled slightly.

Ruby's eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on Dani's flustered expression

Liam turned to Ruby. "Now, Ruby, can you tell us about your connection to this artwork? What role did you play in its creation?"

Ruby's voice rang out confidently. "I created the artwork, inspired by my personal experiences and emotions. I used a combination of techniques, including symbolism and abstract expressionism."

"As Ruby's detailed explanation concluded, the judges nodded thoughtfully, their expressions reflecting growing conviction. Meanwhile, Dani's vague responses seemed increasingly flimsy in comparison."

The judges' expressions grew more convinced, their body language leaning toward Ruby's authenticity. Aurora's eyes locked onto Dani, her tone firm but fair.

"Dani, it's crucial to provide concrete evidence or specific details to support your claim. Can you recall any distinctive elements or inspirations that are uniquely yours?"

Dani's hesitation turned to panic, her words tumbling out in a desperate attempt to salvage her story. "I... I mean... I was going for a theme of... of... um, growth?" Her voice cracked, and her hands trembled slightly.

Ruby's voice remained calm, her confidence unwavering. "If I may, I'd like to point out specific elements in the artwork that reflect my personal experiences and emotions, which Dani couldn't possibly know or replicate."

The judges nodded, intrigued by Ruby's offer. Liam leaned forward, his voice encouraging. "Please, Ruby, proceed."

With precision, Ruby highlighted the intricate details, symbolism, and techniques that made the artwork hers.

Aurora's eyes sparkled with interest as Ruby highlighted the artwork's symbolism, her gaze lingering on the intricate patterns and colors.

Aurora leaned back in her chair, her expression thoughtful. "Thank you, Ruby. Your explanation has been enlightening. Dani, would you like to respond to Ruby's points or provide any further evidence to support your claim?"

Dani's face fell, and she glanced at her parents, who looked increasingly worried. She took a deep breath and attempted to salvage her story, but her words lacked conviction.

Meanwhile, Ruby stood tall, her confidence and conviction radiating like a beacon. The judges exchanged knowing glances, their expressions suggesting they had heard enough.

Dani's words trailed off, her voice barely above a whisper. The judges nodded sympathetically, but it was clear they were unconvinced. Aurora leaned forward, her voice firm but fair.

"After careful consideration, we have reached a decision. Ruby, we believe your explanation and evidence demonstrate a clear connection to the artwork. We hereby declare you the rightful creator of this piece."

The audience erupted into applause as Ruby's face lit up with joy and relief. Dani's parents looked stunned, their faces pale with disappointment. Dani herself seemed shell-shocked, her eyes fixed on Ruby with a mix of emotions.

As the applause continued, Ruby's smile grew wider, and she took a step forward, her eyes shining with tears. Dani, on the other hand, seemed frozen in place, her gaze still fixed on Ruby. The judges smiled, satisfied with their decision, while Dani's parents looked crestfallen.

The applause gradually died down, and Aurora spoke up again, her voice warm and congratulatory. "Ruby, your talent and dedication have shone through today. We look forward to seeing your future work."

Ruby nodded graciously, her smile still radiant. Dani, meanwhile, turned and walked away, her head held high despite her disappointment.

As Dani turned to walk away, Liam's voice rang out. "Hold on, i don't think we are done here...."
