Reika frowned, leaning forward slightly on Kagari's back, peering through the clouds.
"Okay, on time," she muttered, watching the first plumes of smoke rise from Oakhaven below.
The distant screams were just beginning to reach her, even at this altitude. "Don't fly too low, Kagari," she patted the Solarynth's warm feathers. "I don't want you get hurt. The village raid, huh?" She scanned the burning village, her eyes sharp. "Hero hasn't arrived yet. Let's see what happens."
She directed Kagari to circle slightly lower, just enough to get a clearer view without becoming an obvious target. From the ground, the massive Solarynth would appear as little more than a distant speck against the overcast, blue sky. Reika murmured an incantation,

a shimmering lens of pure mana formed before her eyes, magnifying the chaotic scene below. Goblins, Grak, weird bug things from underground, the flying fire-spitters... it was definitely more intense than the book described. "This is much better now, right Kagari?" she said, mostly to herself, a thrill mixing with her enjoyment. This was far more interesting than the predictable script she remembered.
