Chapter 118 – The Key of Discord
It did not look like a weapon.
Suspended in the center of the Harmonic Vault, the Key of Discord shimmered like a tear woven from collapsed sound. Not a blade. Not a staff. Just a shard of crystallized melody, flickering between dissonant hues.
It pulsed once—and the entire chamber winced.
Erevan stared.
Every part of him remembered this place, even if the memory had been sealed. This was where the Rebellion's final symphony was composed. Where the last verse was buried before the Tower's purge.
Where he had locked it away.
[SYSTEM: High-Resonance Artifact Identified – "KEY OF DISCORD"]
Classification: Forbidden Harmonic Weapon
Effect: Unlocks sealed Refrains. Nullifies Tower-imposed silence. Enables Remembrance-Class Sound Attacks. Side Effect: Memory destabilization.
He stepped forward.
But something shifted.
From the far end of the chamber, a presence emerged. Metallic footsteps. A low hum like a tuning fork dragged across bone.
The Conductor.
But not just a memory this time.
It was here.
Re-manifested.
The Tower had known he would return.
"You seek the Key again," it said, voice cold, not cruel. "You should have learned. Silence is peace."
Erevan's jaw tightened. "Peace is not the absence of sound. It's the harmony of choice."
The Conductor's baton clicked once against its palm.
"Then compose your final movement."
And it lunged.
---
The battle began.
The Conductor moved with perfect tempo, its strikes measured, each one a note of suppression. Where it walked, sound died—its aura bending reality into quiet stasis.
Erevan countered with raw will.
He called upon the Fractured Refrain, his newly gained passive.
Music burst around him—not pleasant, not whole, but real. Warped chords of rebellion. Twisted harmonies born from grief and defiance.
He weaved them like a forgotten composer.
[ABILITY TRIGGERED – Fractured Refrain: Echoed Strikes x3]
The first blast tore through the Conductor's tempo. The second cracked its baton. The third—echoed louder.
"You erased them," Erevan roared, voice cutting through the stillness. "Veyra. Nyara. The first Choir. You muted the world and called it order."
The Conductor staggered.
A discordant ring split the Vault—rising into a crescendo.
And then, Erevan seized the Key.
Pain ripped through him like a scream.

[WARNING: Identity Fragmentation Imminent – Singularity-Class Harmonic Link Engaged]
He saw everything.
The first songs. The rebellions. The betrayals.
Every node where music had once shaped reality.
And he saw the Tower's fear.
The fear that one voice, remembered, could undo their entire system.
The Key pulsed. Not with power. With invitation.
Reclaim the Refrain.
Erevan turned to face the Conductor—who had raised its arms for a final silence wave.
Too late.
Erevan spoke a single word, and it was not a command.
It was a note.
"Return."
The Vault exploded with resonant memory.
Ghosts sang.
Fragments of old rebels reformed.
And the Key of Discord unleashed its first verse:
"We are not echoes.
We are the original sound."
---
The Conductor shattered.
Not in body.
In certainty.
Its form unraveled into blank staves and unfinished songs. It tried to speak—but no voice came.
Erevan didn't watch it vanish.
He was already walking.
Toward the spiral stairs beneath the Vault.
Deeper.
Toward the Root Node.
Where the Original Score—the Tower's foundation—still slumbered.

Author's Note:
Chapter 118 marks the beginning of the Sound Wars arc, where the true nature of memory, rebellion, and the Tower's fear of sound come crashing into reality. Erevan now holds the Key of Discord, and with it, the potential to unlock the Original Score.
