Only for the mayor to stare at them a few seconds longer before turning his gaze away and motioning to the guards, who once again covered the cage
" so do we have any challengers? " asked the mayor, his gaze sweeping over the crowd, lingering on Leo and Rebecca before looking away. Hearing no answer he pointed towards a table where 2 men sat
" go there, register, your name and how many people are in your family. You will then be given a house number, this will be your house for the next week. " said the Mayor as he turned to leave, three guards following him
The other 2 walking towards the table, standing at the sides
Leo watched him leave, before glancing at the now covered cage before he pulled Rebecca towards the table. Seeing his actions, people in the crowd gradually followed
" name, age, how many people are in your family, any useful skills " said one of the men not bothering to raise his head
" my name is Leo, I'm 15 years old, my only family is my sister, Rebecca who's 10 years old. Our father thought us how to hunt so we're pretty good with bows " replied Leo having already thought of what he was going to say
He watched as the man infront of him wrote down everything he said before throwing the paper into the box beside him and taking out a new one
" find a empty house, it'll be yours for the next week. As long as you hand in 200kg of fish to the Mayor's house " said the man as he pointed towards the largest house in the village sitting above the others before he continued " it'll be yours for another week. You can sell any extra fish at the market to buy what you need " explained the man with a bored expression on his face before he waved them away in disgust
Seeing this Leo pulled Rebecca and left the line. Walking past the cage into the village.
They weren't many people in the village at this time, more than likely out fishing. Those who weren't looked at them and the others who came in behind him in contempt. He even overheard some of them gambling on who would last the longest
He honestly wasn't surprised, even in modern times people screw over one another for a chance to be promoted further more in times like these
Where winning means survival and losing means death. He's sure that the only reason they don't make attempt to attack them and kill any future competitors is because of the guards
Though he doubted the guards would really care. They'd do their jobs but that's on the surface. The most dangerous attack is the one you don't see coming
His thoughts were suddenly distracted by Rebecca as she pointed towards a house
" what about this? " asked Rebecca
Leo looked at the house infront of him and frowned slightly as he walked around it. It was 10 feet wide and about 20 feet long. Glancing around, he found that most of the houses in this area were this size, only a few closer to the Mayor's were larger
' 200sq huh ' thought Leo as he nodded to Rebecca and pushed open the door only to start coughing as a cloud of dust rushed out causing Rebecca to bursted into laughter
" har har " said Leo as he wiped the dust of his face and walked inside, Rebecca giggling as she followed behind him
He looked around the house finding, a bed, a table and a chair. Shaking his head he pushed open the window, feeling the slight breeze and turned to Rebecca
" let's start cleaning "
***
After they had finished cleaning the house and making it somewhat livable. They left, intending to start fishing today, as they didn't have any time to be slacking off
Walking through the village, Leo found that most of the houses were still empty. Those that did, were crowded with families. He couldn't imagine how they fit 5 or 6 people into 200 square feet
After making their way back to Rebecca's tarp. Rebecca watched in confusion as leo gathered several straight sticks and thin vines
" what are you doing " asked Rebecca as she squatted down and watched Leo as he stuck sticks into the ground in a circular pattern
Before he took the thin vines they found and started weaving them through the sticks joining them together
" how many fish do you think we can catch using just those leaves "
Leo didn't answer her question but asked one of his own, not stopping his actions
Rebecca thought for a while before speaking
" ten? "
" so ten fish as 20g a piece based on the ones you catched before. That's only 200g . While we need 200,000 grams of fish. Every week, do you think that's possible?" Leo went with the number she said then broke it down further
Hearing his words Rebecca fell silent before she spoke
" but they won't sell us fishing rods or nets "
Nodding at her words, Leo continued his actions motioning for her to watch, a few minutes later
He raised a large funnel like structure and showed it to Rebecca with a smile before handing her a smaller one
" how is this supposed to help us " asked Rebecca as she followed his instructions as they put the 2 pieces together
" this my dear, is a fish trap " said Leo, feeling glad that he watched all those different survival videos when he was bored
While also surprised at how strong his current memory was, as he could remember the entire video
' a benefit of high intelligence? ' thought Leo
" a fishing trap? " asked Rebecca as she looked at it in confusion, not understanding how this will help them catch fish
" take me to the river and I'll show you " said Leo while holding the trap in his arms.
Though confused, she led him to a small river where she usually caught her fish. After he arrived, he walked around before he squat down by a pile a leaves, pushing them away as he dug into the soil, before taking out a few earthworms, much to Rebecca's disgust
" this fish trap works like this. We put bait here " said Leo as he gestured to the earth worms as he put them into the bottom of the trap before putting back on the top
" the fish, swim through this part to get the bait but get trapped inside as they can't swim back out " explained Leo as he used his arm to demonstrate
Hearing his words, Rebecca's expression brightened before she spoke
" but what if the fish are too big, won't they break the trap? "
Leo was about to say no, then he remembered that he wasn't on earth anymore as he focused on the fish trap. Only for a panel to pop up

Seeing this panel. Leo frowned as he added 1 UP. Under the amazed gazed of the two, the trap rapidly changed, becoming much more refined and sturdier before the changes stopped

[ Exquisitely Made Fish Trap ] [ 0/2 ] 20/20 durability [ COMMON ]

Seeing this change, a bright smile appeared on Leo's face
" we may not even need 7 days to catch 200kg of fish " said Leo as he turned towards Rebecca who's gaze was still on the trap before he turned his attention to his panel seeing that he still had points
He continued to upgrade the trap. He watched as it was continuously refined before its appearance no longer changed but he could feel it getting heavier in his arms
After the changes stop, he opened it's panel in anticipation

Seeing it changes and the brightening smile on Leo's face, Rebecca asked how the trap had changed. Realising that Leo had used his talent
After explaining the changes to Rebecca, he walked into the river and simply placed down the trap in a somewhat hidden spot. A good spot isn't needed with the attributes of the trap
Coming back to shore, he was met with a question
" what now? " asked Rebecca her eyes shining with excitement
" now we wait "
