Chapter 8 - Chapter 08 – Creepy Mansion, Creepy Jars, and a Cheeky Little Kiss

The moment they arrived at Ryouko's home, Haruno blinked, unsure whether they'd taken a wrong turn into a haunted movie set. The mansion stood tall like a gothic Western manor, its windows shadowed even under the noonday sun. An eerie atmosphere clung to the place, like the sky dimmed just slightly above it. Haruno could've sworn he saw crows circling above the roof, cawing like ominous background music to an unfolding mystery.

And that was just the outside.

Inside, things got weirder. Ryouko led him through a creaky hallway until they reached what looked like her private clinic—and it was straight out of a sci-fi horror film. Advanced medical pods lined the wall, glowing faintly in unnatural colors. Shelves overflowed with alien gadgets, blinking and humming. Then Haruno spotted the jars. Not pickles. Limbs. Eyes. Tentacles. Preserved in strange fluids, floating like science exhibits that shouldn't legally be in a house.

"…Are those alien body parts?" he whispered, taking a cautious step back.

Ryouko just smiled. "Welcome to my real clinic."

"Y-Yeah..." Haruno managed to mutter, his eyes still darting around the room. He knew Ryouko wasn't a normal school nurse, and he'd already come to terms with the fact that she was tied up with aliens somehow—but this? Seeing it all up close, with glowing machines and floating extraterrestrial body parts? It was a lot to take in.

He swallowed, his gaze lingering on the sleek, eerie pods around him. "To be honest... I thought I'd be more freaked out. And yeah, okay, I'm still a little freaked out. But... this is kind of amazing." He stepped closer to one of the pods, his reflection rippling across the glassy surface, distorted in strange, surreal ways. "It's like I've walked into the set of a live-action anime, mixed with a sci-fi horror flick… but somehow, it's cooler than anything I could've imagined."

Ryouko chuckled softly, her posture relaxed as she leaned against the desk, arms crossed with a playful glint in her eyes. "Ufufu, are you curious about all of this, then?" she asked, her voice light but teasing. "You don't look too scared, though. I'm surprised." Her smile widened, her expression both amused and soft, as she looked at Haruno with gentle warmth, happy to see he was fine despite everything.

I mean, I thought about it," Haruno admitted, smiling nervously. "But then I realized—this is all real, isn't it? I'm here. You're here. And even if it's terrifying… it's also kind of awesome."

Ryouko tilted her head, eyes twinkling with amusement. "You really are a strange one, Haruno-kun. Most people would be a mess by now, but look at you—still trying to play it cool."

Haruno gave a small shrug, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "I'm fine… probably because you're here. Somehow, things don't feel as scary with you around."

Her smile softened, genuinely touched. "Geez… saying things like that so casually. You're going to make a woman swoon, you know."

"Uh—was that… good or bad?"

Ryouko giggled, walking past him to adjust something on one of the glowing machines. "Definitely good. I especially like that you're not all hectic and frantic about this… You're so calm, it makes me wonder if you're not interested in aliens—or maybe in me."

Haruno glanced at Ryouko, a subtle smile playing on his lips. He already knew the truth—her identity as an alien and even more, as a skilled alien doctor. After all, he had seen the anime To Love-Ru and read the manga from start to finish. The mysteries surrounding Ryouko Mikado weren't exactly mysteries to him. But even with that knowledge, seeing her in person, so vivid and real in this world, carried a different kind of thrill.

"Well," he said, his tone casual but honest, "I do want to know more. But I'd rather hear it from you. There's something… kind of hot about an adult woman keeping secrets."

He wasn't trying to be slick. He was just saying what felt right in the moment. And maybe, just maybe, he wanted to see how she'd react.

Ryouko usually didn't mind people discovering her secret. She had long accepted who she was—an alien, a doctor, someone not quite of this world. But for some reason, standing in front of Haruno now, she felt an unusual flutter of anxiety. What if he looked at her differently? What if the warmth in his eyes disappeared once the truth fully sank in?

But then he spoke, and his words melted her worries like morning mist under sunlight. There was no fear, no judgment—just curiosity, calmness, and even a hint of admiration. Her heart skipped.

'Hau… I think I'm starting to like him more than I should,' Ryouko thought, a soft blush creeping across her cheeks. She tried to remain composed, but the heat rising to her face betrayed her. Her pointed ears, already reminiscent of an elf, were tinged red—completely giving her away.

She remembered the moment their eyes met when they first met again. It was truly sensational—something she couldn't forget. And those feelings only grew stronger the more she interacted with him.

And now, she felt it again. A strange, quiet resonance, as if their souls had brushed ever so slightly—and hers had chosen to linger. To adore. To desire him.

"Well, I'll be honest with you… I'm actually what your people—Earthlings—would call an alien," Ryouko said softly as she stepped closer to Haruno, who had been quietly observing her workspace with interest.

Haruno glanced at her, completely unfazed. "Is that so…" he replied with a calm, almost nonchalant tone.

It wasn't much of a reaction—but it was exactly the kind that made Ryouko's chest tighten with a strange warmth. He didn't panic, didn't ask foolish questions, didn't look at her like some bizarre creature. He simply accepted her, just like that. She found it unexpectedly… endearing.

Overwhelmed by a sudden rush of emotion, Ryouko almost lost her composure. She wanted to do something bold—maybe even reckless—but held herself back just in time. Instead, she leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek.

"This is your reward for being so brave," she whispered, her voice playful yet sincere. Then she gave him a teasing pat on the face, grinning as a bright red blush spread across his cheeks the moment he realized what had just happened.

Even with the memories of his previous life, Haruno had always been a frail, sickly person—more familiar with IV drips than romantic relationships. He never once experienced the flutter of love returned, nor the warmth of being genuinely appreciated by someone. Anime waifus had been his only comfort, his idealized escape from a world where affection always felt out of reach.

So when he met Ryouko and felt that unmistakable pull—the soul-tingling connection that mirrored Rentarou's absurd romantic fate—it hit him harder than he expected. This wasn't just infatuation. It was real, raw, and terrifyingly intense. For someone who'd lived fifteen years being gently turned away over and over again, her kindness felt like sunlight after a lifetime of rain.

And unlike before… this time, someone actually smiled back.

Even if it was thanks to his wish, Haruno couldn't deny the feeling swelling in his chest. The way Ryouko looked at him—those eyes weren't just beautiful, they were magnetic. Like two souls drawn together by invisible strings. Slowly, unconsciously, they leaned in closer. Their breaths mingled, noses nearly touching. Haruno's heart pounded wildly. Were they really about to kiss?

Beep-beep! BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!

The obnoxiously loud blare of an alarm shattered the moment like a brick through glass.

"Ugh! Seriously? Now?!" Ryouko groaned, whipping around toward the control panel.

Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the blinking red light. "We've got trouble—again."

Outside the window, a slimy shimmer oozed into view. The slime alien was back—and it had brought friends.
